Visconti Black Ripple & Visconti Carbon Dream - Advice & Price

Hi

Ive seen 2 visconti fountain pens that i really like. The visconti black ripple and the visconti carbon dream. I cant decide which one to buy. I like both of them. What would you lot recommend. Also how much should i expect to pay for both of these pens? I would prefer to buy these pens in used condition, but if the price is right then i would consider buying them in new condition. Noticed that 2 months ago a brand new blue visconti ripple sold for $465 on ebay. I missed out on the black ripple that bryant was selling recently. All these pens always seem to end up in america tongue.gif I hate the uk £15 customs threshold! Hate having to pay duty and tax on pens that were originally made in europe.

These rarely show on the used market. NIB I would expect to pay 1,000 USD for one of these now.

I own both, so I can't help you decide. :headsmack:

See if Bryant can source one for you. Otherwise you'll have to watch and pounce.

Zvipens on eBay had one awhile back. Decent seller - sourced some Ancora LEs from him awhile back, but his prices have gone high of late. Still, if it's the only game in town... He's got high end NOS as he used to be an authorized distributor.

Yep on what they have both told you. Further, the Carbon Dream is to me the more preferable. Then again I own the Black and Blue Ripple too, so you really can't go wrong...

Awhile ago, I saw a brand new Carbon Dream on the Italian Ebay site, not USA, auctioned at the starting price of $450 (USD equivalent) but nobody bid on it. It was then relisted the next week and still went out with no bids. I'm sure the seller is still trying to sell it LOL. Sometimes it's worth looking at other countries' Ebay sites, as their markets aren't as competitive as that of our own.

Thanks for the advise everyone. Looked on ebay but prices are too high at the moment. Damn i cant believe i missed out on carbon dream at that price. Im assuming you mean the carbon dream ripple pen was the pen that on one bidded on? Because you can also get regular carbon dream pens from visconti aswell. The italian website did sell one in september that went for 500 euro ($635) on auction. That was a really good price. But didnt come in its original box. The only problem i have with buying pens from the states is the duty and vat applied to it. Italianpens from ebay has got these pens, but his prices again are too high so no one buys them. I think i'll go with the carbon dream because i like the demo look of the pen :)

I have both. I like the theme and look of the Carbon Dream but I prefer writing with the Black Ripple, it is heavier but the weight seems more balanced to me. The lump of titanium at the end of the Carbon Dream makes it back heavy.

Apart from Bry, you could try the Italian dealers, such as Novelli, particularly for the Carbon Dream.

Good luck

Yes the Carbon Dream Ripple with the metal (titanium??) end knob and section. The pen that I saw on Ebay Italy did come with its box, and listed as brand new. If I could remember correctly, the listing price might have been just $399 in USD equivalent, rather than what I said in the earlier post. I didn't have the money then, otherwise it would be in my hands right now.
