Ink As Well Behaved As Noodler's Black But Blacker?

Or; How Noodler's Black saved the day.

I really do need to find this ink if there is such an ink, my one decent sized sample of Noodler's Black is almost gone. Any choice must be absolutely universally great with any pen as the Noodler's is. No misbehavers need apply!

Now the saved the day part.

I've used my Kaweco sport as an ED before but mostly now with one of the mini-international carts that Tryphon used to send out with their orders. Most of the time that Black ink has been fine. Went to test write with it before taking it to early voting and it was all skippy so I did a flush, tine floss and a new cart went in. Still wouldn't write! :gaah: Reflushed and flushed the cart clean with water and a syringe and refilled the cart with Noodler's Black.

WhamBam Done! :clap1: My little Kaw went voting with me writing as nicely as it always has.

Now, I just need something as well behaved but BLACKER. Oh, and bulletproof like the Noodler's too would be nicer.

HOD I assume?

I hate it when people use abreviations instead of the words that may mean something.

I preseume you mean Heart of Darkness?

It would be awkward if he hated people who spelled presume as preseume.

I got that he probably meant Heart of Darkness; this is the Fountain Pen network after all, not the Tiddly Winks Association. Brings up a question though, is Heart of Darkness (HoD or HOD) really darker than Noodlers Black BP (Bullet Proof)?

I have not tried as yet, but really like the regular Nooders Black.

No, it isn't.

Yes, I wonder though why I bother with a forum where some people make such a fuss over a typo, but of course I should not have been rushing to finish and post.

Maybe the tiddly winks association will be more fruitful with some original thinking for a change. So perhaps I should try it.

I remember trying Tiddlywinks for about 5 minutes as a child.

It was off the end of my fiddly scale. No could deal with.

Hey, if avocado can be spelled avacado, then preseume works for me. It sounds like a word for a resume' that contains presumptions, and when isn't that the case?

Definitely Sailor Kiwaguro. Flow is impeccable, the stuff is completely waterproof and it dries nice and quick. Once I found this ink I never looked back to my dark Noodler's days... I could never quite shake the impression that Noodler's black has a viscous, oily yellow sheen to it. Kiwaguro is black-hole-black. Expensive, but when you look at the price per fill it's much of a much.

I haven't found an ink that can beat the performance of Noodler's Black. Sure, there are darker inks like Heart of Darkness, but none of them quite measure up to Noodler's Black overall performance on bad paper.

The only characteristic that could be improved on Noodler's Black would be its use for watercolor outlines. All of the bulletproof ink doesn't always bond to paper, and water can spread that unbonded ink around. For that purpose, you could use Platinum Carbon Ink.

I have HoD, but not regular Black. It's never been the toner cartridge black i assumed it would be.

HoD is more penetrating than regular black. So it may be blacker color wise, but not darker saturation-wise as it soaks into the paper instead of sitting on top. Does that make any sense?

From reading the reviews, not personal experience, I conclude that Old Manhattan Black merges the non-feathering sit-on-top qualities of regular black with the blackness of HoD.

Hey Silverfish,

I'm Canadian, but naturalised. I'm originally from Surrey, England.

Seeing that you are from the UK, I did not think you would mind a light verbal jab, in response to your own.

My apologies if I tread too heavily on your toes.

Hopefully you are now mollified and we can go back to the earnest business of talking about pens, inks and papers.

btw The Tiddly Winks Association was a complete non-starter, full of dead fish and red herrings.

Of course, all that remains is for someone to point out that the past tense is "trod."

Did someone ask about ink? I'm not sure I'd classify the Sailor Nano Black is very low maintenance. A cartridge came with my desk pen, and to me it was an ink that I had to use nearly every day, or it risked drying out. It's a wonderful velvety black, though, and very smooth. Perhaps that was just a feature of the cartridges, or that particular pen.

+1 Noodlers Old Manhattan Black from Fountain Pen Hospital in NY, NY. Saturated, dark, wonderful ink. About as black as I've ever seen.

+1

There may be some high maintenance blacks that are blacker, but this is BLACK and very well behaved from my Edison xf to my Nakaya music nib and everything in between. It feels like writing wih velvet and has never once feathered or hesitated.

Hmm... I never quite understood what's so 'high maintenance' about Sailor Nano. I mean, sure, you need to flush *very* well when changing inks to avoid precipitation, but as a daily ink it requires minimal fuss. I've been using it for almost 2 years in a Lamy 2000 and Pelikan M600 and have had no issues (other than a nasty reaction between it and iron gall, but that was pure carelessness...)

(I can understand the hesitation though if it's an ink which will be used sporadically.)

Noodler's X-Feather is darker than the Black but behaves almost the same (dries a bit slower.)

Black Moccasin is the "blackest" black I got from Noodler's, does feather more than the regular black thought.
