Can A Man Use Yama Budo?

I'd nominate GClef, but alas he's not involved in this scheme. Any other volunteers?

Well, that's all the more reason...he's not here to say no.

I'm cannot, I am native to the Las Vegas area and therefore both unqualified and through the marvels of genetic and environmental engineering completely unable to learn "taste" or "style".

Therefore, I nominate Madame GDV.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

If I actually start the thread, would there be people actually doing this? I'm not going to expose my shame to the public without other people to go down with me doing the same.

Amber: I do have my (own) style in abundance, but I've no idea where you got the notion that I even have a grain of "taste". I'm flavourful but tasteless. :S

I'm at your service, Ma'am.

Except for the part about going down on you.

All right, I've taken the leap. If I am the only one who ends up displaying my embarrassing romanticism, I'm going to splash a healthy dose of BSB on all of you...

Right on! I'm thinking this will be a great success.

Here is a song for such an occasion.

A favorite in my 3B M1000 so give it a try and see. I prefer wetter inks and nibs, so it's down to personal taste.

Inked up my broad nibbed M800 with yama budo and my testosterone levels are still within normal limits :)

Looks great - not too pink. Actually to my eye, it's more of a burgundy. I will admit however, that I don't see myself using this ink to take notes, not because I care what any narrow-minded colleague may think, but because reading pages of text in this color is a bit tough on these old eyes. Same with most other inks in the red/orange family. Actually, it's the same for me with any ink that's not dark blue, black or any other really dark color (like Diamine oxblood).

I just received a bottle of yama-guri (a fancy name for brown). I'll give that a shot next. I expect it will dark enough to be readable over the long haul.

I received a sample size from a recent PIF and to me it reads more purple than pink. in a search to find a less costly buying option I have found the color referred to as a crimson, a bordeau and a magenta. I would go with the magenta reference which would be a purplish-red.

So IMHO it is very acceptable for a man to use.

It is magenta. People who see it as "pink" have a blue deficiency. I have long been interested in how people perceive colours differently, and why.

See this thread: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/232882-are-men-and-women-different/?p=2502273

Someone earlier tried to chastise me for suggesting that people get their eyes checked before judging Yama Budo. However that is a serious suggestion and a good place to start is here: http://www.xrite.com/online-color-test-challenge

So what they should do is write down what colour they think it is, then do this test and let us know what deficiencies they have.

That is very helpful. Thanks.

Oh, thank you for that link! I love that. I took the test and sent the link to my husband so he can also take it. I suspect he will not score as well but it will be interesting to see how he does.

I scored an 8 (lower being better), that is part of why I don't think he will score so well. Well, that and the fact that we have debated the color of other items before.

Redonna can you tell me where your colour perception deficiency is and how you perceive Yama Budo.

I perceive Yama-budo as a magenta - more purple than pink.

Here is the chart that shows the areas of deficiency:

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
