Interest In Bulk Filler Convertor?

Hi Jar,

Thanks for your rightful remark !

After checking/measuring a few convertor pens I fully realize this is fully true.

I think we have to check this very profoundly.

Francis:

Finally, the inner profile of many fountain pen bodies restricts anything wider than the piston grip of a conventional converter from fitting so the practical limit on an ink container will still be about the same as what is available today.

Dear Francis,

Please ignore me if this is not the right place for such a comment and if it is uncalled for. I apologise in advance. While there might be a lot of people that might want to get a universal converter with the bulk filler, I think you will find even more people who would like to buy a pen with the bulk filler, my self included. The pens produced by your self and Conid are very good looking and innovative. However they are too expensive for me (other people?). Perhaps a cheaper version of the bulk filler and or other Conid pens would mean more people get to try your new filling system and Conid pens.

If a converter with a complicated mechanism can be made for under $15 then surely a pen can be made for under $200-$300?

Once again apologies if this is uncalled for. Please keep up the great work.

Dear parnesh,

No problem at all, I fully understand your argument.

The actual Bulkfiller is made using fully machined parts, not one part is injection mould (except for the Bock feed and nib housing)

in a later stage CONID might go for injection moulding for most of the parts.

This would bring the production and selling price of the Bulk filler seriously down, but the moulds and tooling investments are high....

Same for the convertor.

Note CONID has not yet decided starting making a bulk filler convertor.

However they do realize they will have to go for injection moulding if they want an acceptable cost and penetrate in the market .

The biggest benefit I see from such a converter is if it stops the irregularity of ink flow that so often occurs that Essensia referred to a few posts up. I do find it frustrating to have to nudge the ink flow along several times in a writing session. However having said that I would rather be able to afford a Conid/Fountainbel Bulkfiller Pen. I do realize that the pens now produced are very labour intensive and so I must content myself with *sighs* of admiration for the foreseeable future.

Hi all!

I just finished a "Proof Of Principle" version of a Bulk Filler converter.

The converter is equipped with the "standard" cartridge nipple.

The ink volume is 1, 3ml, compared to a standard piston converter takes a 0.6, maximum 0.7 ml of ink.

I compared different brands, and it seems that on the majority I can't install my converter.

As rightfully remarked by Jar, inside the body there are restrictions which only allow installation of the original converter ..

One can surely enlarge the inside back diameter of the barrel, but this is not the goal ..

This implies a high capacity Bulk Filler converter "will be limited to few pen brands

On the modern Faber Castell and Dupont pens the convertor fits perfectly.

Regards, Francis

The fit issue is about what I expected. Your design might also work in some of the Yard-O-Led Viceroy pens and a few others, but when you consider that a small International size cartridge holds about .8 ml of ink and many pens can hold two small International size cartridges is there really a market for a converter that holds less ink and only fits a few pens?

Hi,

Sizewise, I think you should start working around the size and shape of a Schmidt converter or two cartridges laid back to back. This is the general maximum size for converters in most pens. I also think it would be best to focus on only the international size cartridge size for now.

I know this is an old post, but as I am going back to pen with convertors, I'd like to know if the project is still alive - I am so tired of filling! (twice today, in a moderate writing day.)

Try cartridges. If you are using a pen which accepts international carts and converters, you can buy Waterman carts which are quite huge.

Francis,

Werner sent me pictures of the Kingsize you guys are making for me, and it is simply stunning. He said the Slimline should be ready for my fiance in a week or so. I have shown the pictures to many of my students, as well as the Flander's Field Making Of video, and they are all really interested in the Bulkfiller system. As they are all just starting out in the fountain pen world, and in high school, in Detroit, MI (very low socio-economic status, most of them get free lunches and free bus money) they cannot afford a Bulkfiller, but many could afford a $15 to $20 converter for their current pens (lots of Jinhaos, old Esterbrooks that we have restored, a few Lamys, lower end Watermans, things of the sort). Are there any plans to create a Bulkfiller converter? If so, please let me know, and I will be ordering quite a few for the kids. Thanks a ton,

John

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
