Please take a moment to adjust your gear to accurately depict the Grey Scale below.

As the patches are neutral grey, that is what you should see.

One may compare the inks I used to their depiction on the site of each ink company.

Please note: Some viewers may notice a difference in the base tint of the same paper in each Figure. Under most circumstances such a thing would likely go unnoticed; and I assure you that it is normal. I may have a touch of OCD, but I draw the line at sorting the sheets in reams / pads of paper according to tint: its paper - not pearls.

For the purpose of this Comparison, these down-stroke samples from the same pens take the place of the ubiquitous but flaky swabs.

OBSERVATIONS & COMMENTS:

  • Yet again, I looked at the inky work and my Reviews for each ink, and came away with much the same impression as expressed in the Reviews. Alas, no epiphany.
  • In terms of wring experience both inks are very good. Py-g does have higher lubricity, so should be more comfortable especially if using narrow nibs and/or toothy-textured paper.
  • Both would do well as a daily writer ink for those who choose to do so, though Ms Blue-Black would choose the cooler more reserved yama-guri for all but mark-up / editing of material printed in Black, and its slightly lower likelihood of bleed- show-through on lesser papers; the higher water resistance is nice to have as well.
  • Shading potential for both inks is about the same - neither are a powerhouse of shading.
  • I think that most other things can be gleaned from the scans above or by delving into the Ink Reviews.
  • As ever, it comes down to each person's preferences, and matching with their pen+paper combo to give the desired results.
  • For the Comparisons, I let the inky work stand on its own, and await the kind replies from other Members to drive this Topic.

Densitometer Readings

Fine Print

The accuracy and relevance of this Comparison depends in great part upon consistency and reliability of matériel used.

Ink does not require labelling/notice to indicate [changes in] formulation, non-hazardous ingredients, batch ID, date of manufacture, etc.

As always YMMV, due to differences in materials, manner of working, environment, etc.

Also, I entrust readers to separate opinion from fact; to evaluate inferences and conclusions as to their merit; and to be amused by whatever tickles your fancy.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
