Parker Sonnet Gold Cascade Fountain Pen (F)

Parker Pen 27

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have been receiving quite a large amount of skepticism over the value over the Parker Sonnet Cascade Gold Fountain Pen. Most of which are opinions. The value/price that I relayed through this Forum came directly from Parker Headquarters in Janesville, WI. They physically saw the pen themselves and gave me the estimate of $450, WHILE they were looking at it.

I'm not sure on how to locate a more accurate estimate of a Parker Sonnet...

Thanks...

In your original post you said you called Parker to ask about the pen, now it turns out that you actually took the pen to the Parker headquarters for an estimate. Odd - didn't the Parker Pen headquarters move out of Janesville, WI in the 1990's when they were bought out by Rubbermaid? To my knowledge they only have a service center left there now. When did you go to the Parker headquarters in Janesville with your pen to get this estimate of worth? Maybe the pen has been devalued since then?

You are obviously content with the estimate of $450 you received and convinced that the amount is correct; you must be astonished by the excellent deals others have made by buying the pens for so little, and by the corresponding major loss of profit (?) that sellers are willing to accept. I don't have the sense that you are planning to sell the pen, but if you are, I think you will be disappointed by the price others are willing to pay for it.

Anyway, regardless of what it is or isn't worth, I am still waiting to find out if you like the way it writes. :)

No I did call them...

I love the way it writes, it's incredibly smooth and writers almost like a medium, just with a thinner line...

Still confused since you said "they physically saw the pen themselves" (you mentioned that you recently had the pen repaired; perhaps they were the ones that did the repair?) but no matter. It is a nice looking pen and it is good to know that it is a very nice writer, too.

Maybe a fine then ;)

BTW, Parker can not be trusted for identifying fakes either... They have often exchanged nibs on fake pens, and have "verified" that fakes were original.

In other words they are not very up to date with respect to reality ;)

I suppose it is also down to the competence and experience of the staff working at Parker outlets. My local branch of W.H. Smith got so bad, it was like walking into McDonald's.

Every time I asked to see a particular Parker model I was expecting them to say "would you like fries with that". :headsmack:

Hmmm,

I have one or two sonnets and I certainly wouldn't pay the OP's / Parkers estimate of $450 for one, not even a solid sterling silver Fougère See Here.

Also This gold plated Cascade didn't quite reach those heady heights.

As with all things, they are worth what someone is willing to pay for them and $450 for a Sonnet is pie in the sky in my opinion.

Just my tuppence worth.

Oh here are a few of mine. (all certified genuine)

The thing I find "frankly incredible" about this particular pen is the price I paid for it,

below is a screen shot from the original auction listing.

Nice price :) :) Yes there was a period of time that couple of british sellers were dumping Sonnets, and Duofolds (Pinstripe and Choco) in large quantities and low prices... I wish I could have bought more :) I paid $70 for mine.

What a nice looking pen, Paul! And great prices that both you and antoniosz paid for your Terracotta pens. I like the looks of that one better than the Gold Cascade - that one is a bit too blingy for me I think. I may have to keep a look out for a Sonnet; reasonably priced pens that are reputed to be great writers, too.

Your whole collection is lovely, Paul; thank you for sharing the pictures!

That one towards the top right with the blue cap and silver barrel, what exactly is that one?

Thanks again!
