Targa Sizes: Slim Vs. Regular

Recommended Posts

Trying to find a Targa like I used in college, and I just learned that there were (at least) two sizes: slim and regular. I have no idea what size I used to have.

Can someone tell me the difference in diameter? I remember my pen being roughly 3/8".

(Sorry if this has been covered before; I'm not real clear how to root out that info.)

More likely to have been the full sized. Cap diameter 7/16" with the slim being 11/32". The slim would be too much so but the full tapers to 3/8" and a bit smaller.

That would be the regular Targa. The section has a raised VS flat ring on it, and takes a standard cartridge. The slim Targa had a smaller diameter cartridge and converter. The standard Targa is much more robust than the slim Targa, which has a section that tends to break with stress.

and the full size Targa. Note the fatter profile.

Both are available.

The slim cartridges and converters used by the slim Targa have been discontinued and are a bit of a pain to find (though some dealers still have them). The full sized Targa uses readily available standard Sheaffer cartridges and converters.
