hello, I have a black Sheaffer with gold cap and on the tip there is a number 750. On the case there is another 842-0.

I believe the 842 is the Sheaffer model number? What is 750 stand for?

this is my pen

We really need to see the whole pen and the cap to make a guess about the model.

I wonder

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

750 is the mathematical expression for 18k gold-that is-it is 75% pure gold. Some nibs will indicate 585 which is 14k gold, 58.5% pure gold. Although these are the legal purities required to be sold as 18 or 14k, it may not be exact. It should be pretty darn close to that purity though, within a single percentage point.

so what is the difference between legacy 1 and legacy 2 sheaffer pens? Apart from the aesthetics, is there any difference inside the pen?

Legacy pens are a touchdown mechanism with a squared blind cap on the piston tube. The Legacy 2 is similar but the blind cap is rounded. The Legacy Heritage is a cartridge/converter filling system.

Note squared end of this Legacy:

and the rounded end on this Legacy 2:

and the Legacy Heritage with no blind cap:

  • 1 year later...

On a Legacy 2, you will also note a ring on the top of the section.

Check out GARY ELLISON's website sheaffertarga.com for extensive information on a number of Sheaffer pens.

An 842 is a Legacy 1 with 18ct nib (thus the 750) and 23ct GT made from 1995 to 2000.
