  1. 1. Would you use a fountain pen to defend yourself if assaulted?

Although I think these will do a better job.

EDIT: I'm not sure if you can carry a tank for "self defense"

A sharpened No. 2 Pencil with a new eraser is exceptional. That is what Liddy was going to use on Anderson.

There are several suppliers that sell tactical pens for self defense. Some prepper websites have mentioned that the Parker Jotter Flighter bp would make a good self defense pen

Owner of many fine Parker fountain pens... and one Lamy.

Of course I would use my fountain pen as a weapon if attacked, what else would I wright a sternly worded letter with ?

Why I would even go so far as to file a complaint !

Some funny answers here :D

In the UK not only can we not carry a tank as self-defense, but we can't carry any knife or gun here as it's the nanny state over this side of the pond, so this advice could be more useful to a resident in the UK rather than in the USA (where you actually know what it is like to have freedom).

Chefs can carry knives here but only to and from their work with no diversions.

A pen can be carried by anyone as you don't need an excuse to have a pen.

My first line of defense is my daily carry Springfield XD .45 cal loaded with 14 Speer .45 hollow points. Having said that, I have two so called tactical pens that could get the job done if used properly. One is the Schrage Tactical pen in the $25 range. It come set up to be used as a ball point or fountain pen. Posting the cap turns it into a formidable close quarters weapon when set up for ball point use.

The other one is the Smith & Wesson Tactical Stylus/Pen. Also in the $25 range. This one is ball point only and has an phone/tablet styles on one end and the BP on the other end. Posting the cap turn it into a self-protection device that would be very effective if used on vulnerable spots of your assailant.

As pens, both are very good daily carriers and will take a lot of abuse. They are both made of aircraft grade anodized aluminum.

Yes, but only if I did not have access to my guns, knives, pepper spray, keys, tools (hammer, etc), a big stick or a high heel shoe at hand. Pens are way at the bottom of my list of potential defensive weapons.

roflmho.gifroflmho.gifAbsolutely I would, but I figure if I can't get my hands on my shotgun - there's likely a bigger problem at hand!

After all - http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa95/joenpb/Benelli%20Nova%2012%20Ga/8cb4.jpg is probably a bit more powerful than http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/21odKUElFVL._SL500_AA300_.jpg

. . . . Then, I used it to sign a dinner check at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. Very disruptive.

Now I really want to live in America, over here in England we can't even carry a rock as self defense. This country is a sick joke.

It also depends in which state you live in, some have very strict laws against carrying weapons. In New York you can't have a pistol unless you are in law inforcement but you can have a shotgun lol, of course it has to be inside the house/apartment and it has to be in a case. Also you need to get licens to get weapons and it takes time.

I have an Australian Firearms license, but yes it was hard to get (and so it should as they need to be satisfied that you are sane to have one).

Australia is in the middle between USA and UK when it comes to firearms, as we don't ban certain types of guns, but you need to use it for sport or such.. however the UK totally bans handguns.. even the British Olympic shooting team needed to train in France as the laws here in England will NOT allow even the Olympic team to train!!! The only exemption was for the Olympic competition itself (as it was televised they allowed that one exemption)... to me this is the sign of an oppressive state!

I envy the freedom that Americans enjoy.

You can have Pistols in New York state. New York City is a different story.

I think that it's a tricky topic, but at the very least we need laws that follow "Castle Doctrine", meaning that in your own home you should be able to use a firearm to defend yourself (and also take courses on how to use a firearm properly if one does not know).

As I am experienced and used firearms for sport (before I moved to the UK as my Australian license does not mean anything here in England) I may take it for granted people know proper firearms safety, but it should be mandatory even in the US to take a proper course before being granted the right to own a gun (much in the same way you need to take a driving test before being allowed to drive a car).

That would prevent so many accidental killings as firearms safety is something not alot of people follow even though you would think it's common sense.

In high school I broke the tip of a pencil off in a guy's leg. Didn't really do much damage, but surprised him and threw him off his game a bit.

Just sayin'...
