Wowsers. Great pen, great review, great photos.

the cap has a very unique mechanism that I can only call a combination of a pull/push and a screw cap

It reminds me of a bayonet light fitting. Bayonet cap?

Yup, it's a bayonet mount. The same mechanism is also used on the Divina Proportione and it's variants.

Very informative and readable review, great photos. Thank You!

This pen tempts me; cannot deny the strong quality of Visconti pens. Many wonderful pen manufacturers, but Visconti may be the most innovative, creative, and tasteful pen company out there.

Congrats!

Visconti is one of the only company whose entire catalogue (in design) is appealing to me... Ok. Maybe except for OMAS. Montblanc is the company whose pens I buy most often, though, some days Italian pens are just too over the top for me and MB has that cool balance between beauty, quality and functionality. Funny how companies are so different.

Entire line that's appealing? I think I would lean towards S.T. Dupont...they're always elegant.

I can't recommend Visconti enough, I used to be a full on Pelikan fan, but Visconti's designs :puddle:

+1. And Dante del Vecchio is a class act all the way, and a heck of a nice guy to boot.

The Steel Midi is a more usable size than the original Bronze, though I prefer the vacuum filler and more hour-glass shaped section of the original. Is the full-sized Steel also a vacuum filler?

Will

Personal preference I guess! I really like the size, weight, and feel of the original Bronze...maybe I'm just used to it.

The pen I write with, is the pen I use to sign my name.

Hi,

This looks like a very appealing pen. I have handled and repaired many many Visconti pens, but never before have I felt such a strong urge to go out and get one for my personal collection. Not only that, I feel like I should get a Maxi. I'm pretty sure though that I can't really use a Maxi due to the size. I have handled many many pens from Visconti of that size, and I'm not sure I could write for a long time with it comfortably.

What an urge. I should phone my favorite store and order a Visconti Homo Sapiens Maxi with a really broad wet nib. I'm not even kidding here. That's what I feel I should get. I never really could use large pens comfortably, and I like fine dry nibs. I just feel like I should get one, and maybe I can get this relationship to work. Maybe next year, you'll find me with a Homo Sapiens Maxi and a broad nib adjusted for wetness, or you'll see the pen for sale.

That aside, is there a way to find out how much ink you have left?

The desire to try something different is normal. I guess it's possible you'll learn to feel how much ink is left based on the weight of the pen, but otherwise? No, there isn't really any way to tell how much ink is left (short of using a scale to weight the pen + ink).

If you guys have to choose between the Visconti Palladium nib or the Pelikan 14ct nib, what would you choose for :clap1: :clap1: :clap1:

I'm not sure to be honest, although Visconti seems to heading towards Palladium as a whole for their lineup now, so it must be good!

The Visconti 14k and the Pelikan 14k are different...

That being said, I prefer the Visconti 23k Pd over the Pelikan 18k

This is a pen that I am just dying to hold and see what it feels like.

Its great, dry, almost "soft" but you can feel its durability, as well as the fact it warms up to the hand nicely.

Beautiful pen. Looks great with the steel. I have the bronze original. Ive had it about a year and love it. I concur, the nib is a real joy to write with.

A bit tardy on this, but thank you very much for the review. Merely to assuage myself before I get one, I am going to ask: you did not happen to experience what others used to about the section sweating ink, did you?
