A Positive Experience With Bryant From Pentime.com!

I have recently just joined the world of fountain pens and like my numerous other hobbies I dove right in absorbing as much information as possible. Unfortunately, with this hobby it is very difficult to try out the various models when the nearest local dealer is pushy and predominantly stocks Rollerballs. I decided the best option around this was to search for local members of FPN and see if they had any recommendations. After a minutes of searching I found fellow member Bryant. I decided to send him a PM and see where he was located. A couple of messages back and forth we came to the realization we were only walking distance from each other and promptly set up a meeting for Saturday morning. After giving him my price range and preferences he set up a few display trays that met the criteria and a few out of my range to introduce models I would have otherwise not seen.

I usually don't write reviews but meeting Bryant was an exceptional experience. When I am looking to purchase an item I look for 3 qualities in particular... Knowledge, Honesty, and Service.

Knowledge:

On Saturday morning I finally got a chance to meet Bryant at a location we had decided to rendezvous the previous night. He brought 5-6 display trays filled with numerous pens ranging from $300-$2,000. The trays were lined with every trim and model combination imaginable.

After looking at the options I felt overwhelmed as I had only recognized 2 of them ( The Delta Dolce line up and the Visconti Homo Sapiens). This is where he quickly distinguished himself from previous sellers. Picking up on the fact I didn't even know where to begin he started explaining in-depth the qualities of each pen. The materials, their manufacturing procedures, and different nib styles. I finally learned the differences between a stub and an italic nib were. We sat for a good 2 hours or so talking about pens, watches, life, and diseased ostriches.

Honesty:

There is a major difference between a seller guided by greed and one that actually wants their customers to be happy. Bryant had offered his knowledge purely as an enthusiast of pens and because he wanted a fellow hobbyist to further enjoy the hobby. As we were going through the pens he even mentioned “You're under no obligation to purchase from me. I just like to share what I know.” How many sellers have said that?

With the atmosphere being set as not being obligated to make a purchase but for the sake of learning... it's quite a comfortable environment.

Service:

After going through the options I saw one pen I really liked. The Delta Stantuffo Mocha Oro Rosso Grande Limited Edition (The name just rolls off the tongue doesn't it?). The matte finish with the rose gold trim and ink window looked exceptional. After going through the options I finally picked it up with the oversized two-tone fine nib. I told him how I had plans to try out the new Visconti Turquoise ink and he drove home to pick up a bottle to add to my order... free of charge! That is exceptional service.

I definitely recommend Bryant to anyone who is looking for their next pen and I know I will be purchasing from him again.

Yup. Bryant is one of the "Good Guys" and all my dealings with him have been exceptional.

Bryant is indeed one of the best out there. I have purchased several pens from him and have been extremely pleased with all of my transactions. I envy you for living close to him and thus being able to see all the pens he has to offer, but I'm also glad that I'm not too close. It's better that I don't have to face the temptation.

You chose a very nice pen. I bought the same model a month or two ago and it is a beauty.

Bry is the evil Evil Pen Purveyor. The only reason -- the ONLY reason -- I don't avail myself of his excellent services is I went Nakaya instead of Monthblanc, Delta, Visconti, and his own lovely line of Chatterley pens and so on. I just went... Nakaya. (Sigh.)

But Bry is a great pen dealer. One of my favorites.

It's a good thing I don't live closer. As it is, I might as well set up an automatic withdrawal from my account to his. Good choice on that pen  I think he orders stub nibs by the gross just so he can dangle pens in front of me saying, "I have this in a stub" :gaah:

There's no obligation to buy but his prices are very competitive.

I agree that he's an Evil Pen Purveyor. Last time i exchanged email with him, the item was already sold but somehow my money was still exchanged with a different pen and ink in the mail. :hmm1:

Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing

Yep, I bought a couple of pens from Bryant in the past and was very pleased.

I find that I'm getting the fever again and have been looking at his site lately.

I may not have been much help, but I DID bump your thread up to the top.

I'm waiting on some pens to sell so I can nab the latest gorgeous beauty he dangled before me. :puddle:

I think his personal preference are stub nibs. His personal pen he pulled out was a stub.

Considering the responses in this thread we might need to start a support group for this addiction.

I'm in a similar position. Looking to get that OMAS 360 in torquoise he has. I'm intrigued which one you're aiming for...

I cannot agree more.

Next inbound to my house from Bryant in Tucson is the OMAS 360 DLC. Come on OMAS! Git 'r done!

Must get a shot of it next to the Ti 360 in a darned Cholla Cactus for my FPN icon.

He is one of the people who educates me about fountain pens and always answers the questions I email him.

Thanks Bry for being generous and kind.

Bryant's great. I've bought a Visconti Divina Desert Springs and a Delta Via Veneto Doué Elegance from him. When the nib on the Divina wasn't quite right he had Mike Masuyama tune it up for me and it came back great (though the stub was too wide for me and I ended up trading it to Bruce for a gold M - he's still enjoying it. :) )

I am so very jealous that you met him in person!!! However! it is probably cheaper that I am in Australia B) Bry has supplied my fountain pen fixes far too many times over the years to be mentioned and I have always been very delighted and always go back for more. He always makes sure that all of his customers are delighted though and has always given me amazing service. I can't recommend Pen Time enough to be a place to go in search of a fountain pen fix when you are in need.

I'm in a constant state of cat-like readiness!!!

Lol, trust me you're lucky that you are thousands of miles away. I've gotten spoiled by being able to see all the pens in person and purchasing them so quickly.

I'm meeting him up again probably in 2 weeks to talk about watches and hopefully purchase another pen from him.

It has been raining here recently but I did manage a quick shot of my newest watch and the Delta I purchased from Bryant... Yes I know the picture is overexposed.

I may not live near Bryant however I do live near Geoduc whose Delta (as above) I was able to test drive on Saturday. I liked it so much I had to have one of my own! So far transacting business with Bryant has been surprisingly quick and simple.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
