roycroft //arts and craft influenced the letter openers --then point shape design followed function

of course it would be possible to do a matching set of work in pens rocker blotter inkwell

some knife handles are inlay overlay

---------

very tired ////need a nap

----------

new plastics //stronger less brittle than hard rubber are good component material

------------

your metalworking could be even better -it would take very determined effort and drive

the tools and methods are in many ways simple

when it rises above the craft level art begins

I Wish my metalworking was that good. Some serious pens there, & I like the paper knife handles too.

Richard.

although i had made a few pens about 1986 -really got into it when i went back to art scool -using pens for drawings out in the field[niteclubs]

i have made rings earrings bracelets since 1973 - however using pens for drawing made the flaws in ink feeding apparent

i used a variety of dip pens and parts pens from flea markets /antique stores --nobody wanted them much then

i was tooled up and took a years worth of work in a shoebox up to chicago

yellow pages ---circles a page and finger landed on L MICHAEL FULTZ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-------------

when i opened the box fultzie's eyes got real big ///he put a closed sign up and pulled shade down on the door

------then he opened a big safe and had trays of pens ------take what you want !!!!!!!!!

he took a couple of my pens --many didnt work at all --and when he sold them sent me the $$$$$$$$$$

another chicago collector DONALD LAVIN --soon heard about them ---

i met BEVY and RAY JAEGERS in st louis ---

and went to the chicago pen show ----------a prominent long island collector //MRS KY/// bought several pens and for a year thereafter supported me

with custom work and parts pens

about this time the hemingway came out before the lorenzo

--------------------

my highest aspirations were to make improved pens in the manner of the hard rubber overlays and repoussed works from

the 1880-1920s era --i believed an all metal case could be more durable and keeping the pocket weight minimal was very challenging

-------

i studied stacks of PEN FANCIERS MAGAZINES

---------

my success was due in large part because of the talents and skills of my girlfriend //JULIE KATSARAS//

whose skills in photography copy writing organizing marketing computer printing and fashion sense made

the products be in the right places

very nice pen  thanks for sharing

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time
