Just before the outage I stumbled across the Muji aluminum pen in this blog post. There is also a review here on FPN. What interested me about this pen is that it posts without any step or taper in the cylindrical body.

Well, I didn't saw it personally but it is OHTO OEM and OHTO makes slim non-streamlined pens, and picture look likes non-tapered too. Muji do a good job designing minimalistic pens but I think they have too thin body.

I would emphasize the Aurora Hastil, Faber Castell Ambition and on the upper side the Graf von Faber Castell Intuition.

All clean designed minimalist pens.

I also think that the new Lamy Dialog 3 is more minimalistic (whoa! ) than the 2000 model.

Thanks for echoing my earlier post in this thread, I was afraid it was just ignored. The muji is indeed very miniminalistic, and at the extreme other end of the price range, the nakaya entry level portable writer or cigar are also about as minimalistic as you can get.

I think Lamy really looked at the Parker Vector for their inspiration on the Lamy Pur.

One of the many reasons I like the Lamy 2000 is the lustrous patina the black cap and barrel develops after a bit of use.They are a 25 year pen at least.

Of all the 'minimalistic pens' I would refer you to either a Lamy 2000 or Parker 51. If you choose the Lamy 2000 its a great choice, and like you I found the EF way too fine. The FINE is what I currently have and is one of my favorite pens. The Lamy safari is a very dry writer if you compared it to the Lamy 2000. I would order the Lamy from gouletpens.com ( no affiliation) and request that they INK and TEST WRITE the nib to ensure smoothness, flow, and no flaws with the nib. I have ordered one previously in the past and the nib would not write properly at all and I had to return it. Now, yes the Lamy is more of a wet writer but if you use inks that don't spread or feather such as Noodler's Black, iron gall inks, or other inks that don't spread you won't have any issues.

In Australia the Lamy 2000, which I love and have given two as presents, retails for around $A300, which is at the upper end of "minimalism", but for me I would save and buy one of those in preference to a cheaper pen, unless the choices are the perhaps the Lamy Safari, Parker Frontier or Vector. Look around.
