Pinks, Violets, Purples

I am a great fan of inks in the pink-violet-purple range. It is only with such excellent work as this that I am aware of the full range of the available choices. I notice that this particular scan appears on my monitor with a colour shift slightly to the blue. I am a bit surprised at how the Pinkly, which would have been my absolute favourite pink, if it were available, has shifted to the red, by being concentrated. Also, if the scan has shifted the colours to the blue, then that Monterverde Violet may be quite close to the Gamma Violet I have been trying to get. I will contact my art store next time I am in the city and see if they can get some for me try.

I'm afraid the scans hadn't turned out as accurate as I would've hope :crybaby:

Hopefully, having a range of colours to compare, one can work out what each colour should look like - a good imagination is required :headsmack:

I think I might take photos of my swabs in the future, instead of scanning them.

Even though the scan is not as accurate as it might be, it does show a range of visually related items, so gives me an idea of the range of inks available. Had I not seen this scan, I would likely have remained unaware of some of the ink options and would not know to go looking for better examples of some to compare. You have for instance made me aware of Monteverde violet as potential substitute for Gamma. I am down to my last cc of Gamma and have no reasonable hopes of getting more right now.

Edit: Just found other reviews. It has no water resistance, so the search is still on.

Just saw this lovely review. Very comprehensive list of inks that give a great relative comparison. Your writing is to die for. Sublime elegance.

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

Brava!

As an ink n00b, I find posts like yours very, very helpful. Beautiful handwriting, too!

Hello!

What was the tip which was used to make this comparison?

Regards,

Arvind.

Just strips of paper cut to a width of 1/4 inch. I find that they provide better representation of the colour compared to Q-tips

Yeah! They give a in-depth colour, concentration & saturation of these inks. Beautiful

Arvind.

Thank you for this exquisite and comprehensive swatch. I love your handwriting! I would be interested in hearing your experience of using photographs vs scans. I have found the former to be far more useful in depicting hues more accurately (albeit dependent on good lighting and the mood of the camera..)!

I totally agree with you. Photographs certainly tend to be more true to colour compared to scans, even when the lighting is somewhat sub-optimal.

Guest Gracie

Thanks for the wonderful comparisons, and also for the photos. I would like to put in my vote for the Sheaffer Purple, which I find to be a lovely neutral purple, neither blue nor red. There's a nice show of it on Andersonpens.net.

And thanks for showing us your lovely writing!

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
