My Parker IMs (new metal vesion, not the older "Vector MkII") do nt seem to carry date codes at all.

Hi, I bought my 'I.M' in the UK in April 2012, and there is no clue as to where it was made, but on the chrome band at the bottom edge of the cap is this code, (photo). I would think it was made during '11 or '12.

I'm sure there's a "Let's not upset China" clause, Richard; it seems to be the vogue these days.

On the offending item, the code looks like the third quarter of a year ending in 0. If it's an IM of any sort, then 2000 is too early, so that's prrrrrrrobably meant to indicate 2010, which is suggests that Parker's flipping back to the previous pattern of Quarter Year rather than sticking with Year.Quarter. On datum isn't a good foundation, of course, and I thought I'd seen a thread containing evidence that they were sticking with Y.Q on a more up-scale pen.

It's mainly pens, just now....

Oh, good heavens. He's got a blog now, too.

Are you sure it doesn't say IQ? That would be the date code for the 4th quarter of 2010.

Hi all, Yes it is 'IQ'. It was bought brand new from large stationers in the UK, in April '12, of course it could have been made a year or more earlier, but takes time to move along the supply chain to the shops, in this case seems to more be than a year.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.

Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
