Montblanc's Racing Green

I've thought I'd devote my first ink review in FPN to an outsanding ink: Montblanc's Racing Green. This ink is known as English Green in non-English speaking countries: Vert Anglais, Verde Inglese, Englischgrün and Verde Inglés.

 

It's difficult to grasp the real appeareance of this colour on either scans or pics. In my opinion, the second pic below is the one that better reflects the real aspect of the colour. However, I've noticed that even when seen in direct, the same ink can give different shades under different lights.

PS: I edit to add that even though the prices of Racing Green have rocketed in the market since it was discontinued by Montblanc, I found my bottle as a NOS lost in a local dealer for only 10$

I'm guessing it's called "ENGLISH GREEN" and "RACING GREEN" because the color of British Grand Prix cars ... and some British car mop any probably hold's the international copyright on "BRITISH RACING GREEN" as that is what the color was called on Triumphs and Jags.

The people I work for have decided that the 'corporate' green for signs etc is to be changed from Highland Green to British Raging Green. As most of the old paint has faded and weathered, it's hard to get any comparisons to current inks. I've asked for a fresh sample of the new colour so I can do some scans and photos. From the few I've seen, the colour looks just like the paint on an old vintage Bentley that was in one of the town car parks earlier this week.

I think Sailor Epinard has way too much yellow in it to be a close match, but Vert Empire by Herbin is really close. I like MBBRG well enough but I wouldn't say I'm a devoted 'purist' so I am happy to use VE as an alternative.

If anyone is interested, a Mont Blanc dealer in the mall near me had some cartridges left when I was there last (several months ago). I could pop in and see any are still in stock.

 

Edit: I just stopped in, and unfortunately they are all sold out. I apologize for getting anyone's hopes up.

The long due water resistant test. I kept the skript under the tap for around 5 minutes.

Looks like PR Ebony Green to me which I personally dislike.

 

Sailor Epinard is lovely variation of Green, not at all blackish

yet the darkest, no-controversy green.

Like many others, I've read about it for years. Last week I nonchalantly pulled up my eBay (saved) search and about three posts down I stopped cold. A very quick BIN and I had the following on their way to me. All are completely full except for the Blue and Blue/Black (no great loss), and the quintet is rounded out by Black, Bordeaux and, yes, Racing Green. $65.00 all in, including shipping. They arrived today. Nice inks. ;)
