My Stainless Steel Jotter Is Rattly

Must be new SS jotters, my old ones don't rattle.

Try a Schmidt 'cartridge' instead of Parker. Could be that Parker has changed factories and the specs are not as they once were.

I also have a very old SS Jotter BP that does not rattle. But I have felt the problem in other BPs over the years and it drives me crazy.

My P-75 'jotter' does not rattle because it has a Schmidt in it.

I had a lot of problems with Parker BP 'cartridges' fitting it. They would not work at all.

The Parker Mechanical Pencil cartridge worked fine, and I was so glad to find that Schmidt BP cartridge worked like a Champ.

My most recent SS Jotter has gone missing, but it never rattled. The previous SS Jotter I had, the button fell off. Made me wonder if it would be worth buying another, but I did, and this one had no problems at all. Perhaps the fact that I put a Fisher Space Pen cartridge in it is why it didn't rattle, but I don't ever recall having had one that did.

Weirdly, when I went to get another Jotter, I couldn't find one of any description. Ended up getting the Parker I.M., which turns out to be an excellent pen. I still want to find or replace my Jotter though; I think they're one of the most beautiful ballpoints ever made.

There are tons of SS and plastic barrel ballpoint and pencil Jotters on ebay. You can buy a pen/pencil set for $10 shipped. I personally prefer plastic barrel and just like you believe the design of the Jotter is beautiful and classy!

I know this is a very old post but thought I share one solution to rattling problems for ballpoint or gel pens, I recently purchased a Parker urban gel pen, love the pen but rattled, which gets on my nerves! I took a cotton ball and cut a very small strip which I wrapped around the tip of the cartridge, now the pen is rattle free.

By the way... I know this is a forum for Fountain Pens which I own and love! but sometimes... I good old fashion gel pen is great to use as well!!! :)

I’m using one of the new Jotter XL ballpoints in 2020, and I switched out the original ballpoint refill for the Parker gel refill. This Post It hack made a world of difference for the annoying refill click! I wonder if masking tape would provide similar benefit.
