Hello From Edinburgh Scotland

Hi.

I've just joined the FP Network to ask a specific question about vintage pen repairs but it's also a natural fit in many ways as I've been into pens for years and I write about them on my blog occasionally too.

I've had a number of pens I really like for a number of years but it's only recently that I've actually started to carry them around after I discovered a case I was happy to throw my favourites into.

I've relied on a Pilot capless Fermo for the last few years but I've recently discovered the joys of Platinum nibs and, as a result, I'm using more pens and a variety of inks. This is a Good Thing.

Welcome to FPN Craig!

I hope you will hang out here more. You sound as if you have a lot to contribute. I need to get a good pen case. I am entirely too blase about how I carry my pens around.

Aloha, Craiglea:

Welcome to FPN!

You have a nice collection pens, but what do you have in the pouch? I'm fairly new to fountain pens and purchased my first one last month. I have a friend who tried my fountain pen and loved it, so, since her birthday anniversary is May 5TH and the birth color for May is green, I have secretly bought her a used Classic Green Conway Stewart Dandy fitted with an 18K solid gold medium italic nib. I think she's going to really like it.

I enjoyed reading some of your blog and appreciate your critical literary insights and soulful heart and mind evident in it. Then, added to that, you draw wonderfully : ) . I was touched by "They're Not Just Toys". Your children are fortunate to have you : ) . Yes, I do enjoy and have some lovely maudlin music, though I had not before heard of "The King Creosote & John Hopkins" until I read about them on your blog. Then, I went further and heard some of their music on YouTube. They have some elements of the Beatles I think. Lovely maudlin music I have is some by Joan Baez, Jackson Brown and one by them together singing, "Before the Deluge" written by Jackson Brown http://www.youtube.c...h?v=nIYJQfE9ojE , Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, Odeta, Leonard Cohen, The Corries, Isla St. Claire and more. Lovely maudlin jazz I have is by Diana Krall, especially her album, "Live at the Montreal Jazz Festival". I go to the symphony several times a year. On another note, what ever happened to "James"? He was at the top for awhile. I love his creativity. My favorite music video album is "SPIRIT: A Journey in Dance Drums and Song" produced by Peter Buffett, a sampling of it being at these links,

I have added you as friend.

I am happy you've joined us : ) .

Happy pen trails to you : ) .

Hi Lalique.

It sounds like we've got similar tastes in maudlin music.

The pens I carry with me are:

1. Pilot Capless Fermo - This has been mu 'go-to' pen for a long time. It has a lovely smooth nib (slightly broad) and is very practical too. The lack of a cap makes it a great pen to carry around.

2. A couple of Platinum #3776 pens - These are a recent discovery; purchased initially as a way to try a 'Nakaya' nib. Lovely pens to write with a nice slightly flexible nib.

3. A Lamy 2000 - I picked this one up some years age and really like the fact that they've made a luxury pen from relatively utilitarian materials.

4. Lamy 2000 pencil - sorry!

That lot plus some spare leads, a ruler and an eraser makes up my portable kit.

I've also got my dad's old Parker 51 which is a practical pen to use day-to-day but the nib may be slightly damaged on that one.

P.S. Thanks for all the responses.

Hello and welcome, Steve! Very glad to have you join us here at Fountain Pen Network. I'll second rcarlie's comment that it sounds as though you have a good bit to contribute here. I hope you will not be shy about adding your opinions and questions. I also have checked your blog and, as did Lalique, I enjoyed it. I am going to have to do some checking into the music you mentioned. Thanks for the information.

Welcome,

I'm not sure what your question was.

Last time I needed a pen serviced I sent it to Edinburgh. Goes by the pen name Eckithump I think.

He did an excellent job at a very reasonable price.

No affilliation other than satisfied customer.

You betcha it's a Good Thing! I'm not sure I would want to live without my beloved husband and my pens! (yes, in that order)

It was indeed Dicky, a Parker 51 that had been set up wrong thumbup.gif

Thanks to Eric for sorting out both problem pens. I'm also very grateful to him for introducing me to racing green ink and some lovely pens this afternoon - particularly the Swan.

I'm now going to use my dad’s Parker ’51 in my daily carry pens, loaded up with Diamine racing green. Sadly I've decided that I need to carry a small magnifier rather than the spare leads. A symptom of getting older.
