Uncials letters are 4 nib-width high. Its recommended to practice with a 2mm nib as it shows the letter forms (and any mistakes) clearly.

Here are two guide sheets for uncials. The 6mm guide is used for 1.5mm nib and 8mm guide for 2mm nib. Your nib angle should be about 30 degrees i.e. quite shallow in order to get the thin/thick transitions in the right places. Uncials are a little flat on the sides, not much but just enough so they don't appear totally round.

Here are the sheets:

Uncials-8mm.pdf

You can make guide sheets for Italic at this site. Just enter the nib width and the angle for the slant lines and the system will generate guide sheets for you.

Best of luck with your practice. I do hope you will share your progress with us.

Thank you, Salman. I am trying to practice uncial, too and your guides are very useful indeed.

Fabienne, you are most welcome. I would love to see how your practice is coming along. I love Uncials - its such a rewarding hand to learn and can be executed fairly quickly once you get the hang of it.

Lordrdx666 - I'll be looking forward to it.
