Mead Cambridge Limited

I wanted to provide more information on these pads or notebooks but I can't seem to find the one I bought on the Mead web site nor the Office Depot web site. So either it is too new and the web sites haven't updated yet or it was one of the last ones of a discontinued line, Who knows?

It is a nice pad. The ref # I have is 06538, college ruled 11x8 1/4 in, premium paper, 96 sheets, business notebook. It has a poly pocket in the front, and a label page in the back. It also has a blue cardboard cover. It has a ring binder and lays nice and flat while open and even folds under nicely. I'm not sure of the paper make-up, simular products are stated at 20lbs.

I have a Black and Red in the same style, the mead paper feels the same. I know that is not a true test but it tears the same crumples the same and writes about the same as the B&R.

I have written two, (2) page lettters with a Cross Apogee using Mont Blanc Blue ink with no bleeding or feathering. This is by no means an extensive test, maybe I just got lucky. The price makes it worth looking into for everyday use.

Sorry if I rehashed a previously posted product review.

That's encouraging. Post more if you can find it.

I have found some inexpensive Mead Cambridge steno pads, notebooks work well enough at least for one sided use. No feathering, but enough show-through or actual bleed-through you wouldn'd write two-sided. Since these were the low-oriced "economy" line, somewhat surprising.

Hi David. All these Cambridge items use 20-24# bond paper. For the Last 3 years, thay have been made in China. I believe it may be quite difficult to find the country of origin notation on the product however. I know I have a hard time.

The machinery used over there is new and runs at about 10-20 books per minute. Quite a change from America where the paper machines run 50 to 90 per minute or in some cases, around 900+ feet of paper a minute. But, when labor is so inexpensive why not use it to produce quality products? I must say, they produce a great product in every way. Usually perfect in fact.

You will find that Ampad products will use exactly the same paper in their products. For many years the two were made side by side or by simply tossing on a different cover and back. One of the major complaints about either product line is that the paper won't behave the same on each side or from sheet to sheet. One may be rough the other absorbant, leading to hard writing or feathering.

I've got the Mead Cambridge Business Notebook in the 8.5X11 size and one in the 4X6 size. They all bleed and feather. They are all the 20# thicker paper. I've also tried some Mead Five Star products that also bleed and feather.

I've tried some Ampad products without feathering and bleed and others that do. For me it's been hit or miss. I got some cheap notebooks at Target on clearance, 10 pack notebooks that cost me 25 cents and surprise they didn't bleed or feather.

I've about come down to getting some 28# or 32# HP paper and printing lines and binding.

I use a Waterman Phileas fine point.
