Look at the cap band: it's brassing. This pen's clip just lost all of its gold plating, and the cap band has lost a lot of it too.

Wrong !!,Sheaffer made clips and bands from both gold and brass in the TM line, the 14ct items so marked. Brass was then plated with either gold or chrome. So what color is brass? Brass isn't silver colored, you are correct the band is worn and that is the tell tale sign that would allow this to be identified on it's own ( I doubt many would give it a second look on ebay with an average photo). The chrome has worn exposing the brass rather than the gold wearing to expose a silver base !! The clip would appear to be in better condition. There are numerous examples of reverse trim Snorkel caps but not the TM TD (note the flat white dot), first I've seen. From what I understand from the topic where this photo was posted this is now owned by a serious TM TD collector, who seems rather happy about it. As I said before, a rare pen but you just have to realize what your looking at.

Now that I took a closer look at the picture, it indeed looks like a brassed reverse trim cap.

What does reverse trim mean? Is there more to it than have chrome plate instead of gold plate?

Actually, no. The term "reverse trim" is just one of those that seems to have gained general acceptance in the hobby. I guess to define it would be to say "trim not normally associated (or out of the ordinary) with a pen/model". Does that make any sense?

So any unusual or rare trim option. That certainly makes sense, I just suspected the meaning would be something more complex and/or specific to either Sheaffer or this specific model.
