Classic Black Ebonite Cigar

Here's today's finished commission, a long cigar done up in classic black ebonite.

 

I am quite happy with how this cam out, though photographing it was a challenge, as the glossy black surface just seemed to suck dust straight out of the air.

"Cigar." Hmm. As I say when I follow my tradition of handing a new parent at the office a box of appropriately-colored bubble-gum cigars to pass out, "Don't attempt to smoke it."

 

Seriously, though, a lovely pen. I'd have endeavored to make the filling system operable without disassembling the pen, but that's just me.

 

Simple, elegant, and it makes no attempt to hide the fact that it's a fountain pen, or to look like a piece of modern art.

I worked through a series of ten grits, from 600 up to 12,000. Final polish with Hut plastic polish.

I find lightly wiping the pen with a (slightly used) dryer sheet just before photographing can help with keeping the dust away for a bit

Just really nice material to work with. Sanded up to 12,000 micromesh, then Hut polish. I enjoy working with this ebonite. I'm going to make one for me too, I think.
