Hello :)

 

I'm new to this site, and one of the things that I'd like to buy is a really, really red ink, one that looks as lustrous as possible on the page. Basically, I'd like something that looks as bright and vibrant and attention-grabbing as fresh blood.

:yikes:(or Ferrari's racing red) ;)

 

I've been browsing the Ink Reviews on here, and have noticed that some inks look markedly different in scans uploaded by separate reviewers, so have decided to ask for guidance and personal recommendations.

Lastly, I'm intrigued by the look (on The Writing Desk's Diamine bottled inks page) of a new Diamine colour called 'Matador', but it hasn't been reviewed by anyone on here yet. So, I'd be particularly keen to hear from anyone who has had a chance to play with that stuff.

The scans I've seen of Noodler's Fox Red looks very bright and about like the color you seem to want, but it is one of their "eternal" inks, making it a little pricier than their others at $13.50/1oz bottle.

You seem to be asking for two different shades. A very bright red and one that looks like fresh blood. Can't help with the bright one, but Diamine Oxblood looks just like blood. Every time I fill a pen and get some on my hands someone will ask how I hurt myself.

Try samples of Noodler's Antietam, Diamine Oxblood, Diamine Red Dragon. They are pretty gory.

As you are in the UK, I recommend Montblanc Alfred Hitchcock ink. It's currently available by mail order from most Mb boutiques but I know that Canary Wharf have some in stock. :thumbup:

Diamine Red Dragon and Diamine Oxblood both have a very bloody look to them; Red Dragon is a little brighter and closer to fresh blood, while Oxblood has more of a brown component and is closer to dried blood (although, if I'm being honest, I can't always tell the difference between them; they seem very similar to me). Red Dragon is by far my favourite red ink.

 

That said, if what you're looking for is an extremely bright red that pops off the page, you might be happier with Noodler's Fox or J. Herbin 1670, but neither looks much like blood.

+1 for both MB Alfred Hitchcock and Diamine Oxblood, although certainly Oxblood is a little darker as mcbender says.

 

Diamine does have a price advantage at £2.65 for 30ml (direct from Diamine) to MB's £11+ for the same amount, but I like the MB colour and I don't use red a lot.

 

MB is Selfridges Birmingham has had MB-AH in stock on my last couple of visits, most recently a week or so ago.

 

I'd be tempted to order 4 different Diamine reds that you like the look of, about £10.50 delivered (free postage over £10!).

As Bigeddie says, check out the Diamine - home-grown and priced superbly.

It's a little expensive but the J Herbin Hematite Rouge 1670 has a pretty blood-red color to me. In fact, the mineral hematite's name is derived partly from hemia, which is the Greek word for blood :)

 

It does have a gold flaky deposit on it though sometimes.

Sorry to disappoint, they stock Mont Blanc, not Diamine. Hitchcock is well worth a try though.

 

If you are in Brum, check out the muji shop too, it's 5 minutes down the road and has some very nice (and economic) notebooks.

'Write Here' in Shrewsbury stock Diamine, if it's any use.

Are any one of you related to Nosferatu? I'm locking down my computer every night in case any of you should emerge from this fiendish device! Is that a wolf I hear baying in the distance. Just checking for a full moon.

As others already mentioned, Oxblood should be good. :)

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
