Hello

Recommended Posts

Since there is a forum for it, I'm introducing myself.

I moonlight as a writer and compose both on my computer and longhand. For a long time now I've been getting fed up with bad ball point pens, and this winter a good friend gifted me with a Lamy Safari. It was love at first write! I still have uses for (good) ballpoints, but for writing I'm now a FP woman.

I've already made my first FP purchases, though not high-end: 3 Platinum Preppies (two medium nibs, one fine), a Pilot Penmanship and a Pilot Plumix. My goal here was to find a FP that I could take out and about, since I don't want to take my Safari out of my apartment and lose it. (Granted, I have managed to lose things in my own office, but still.) So far I am madly in love with the Preppies, which write well for me and are so cheap I won't need to worry about losing them. I have my eye on another Safari, though: I like my medium nib but I'm curious about their fine.

I've already found the reviews on this board to be very helpful. My thanks to everyone who has contributed to them.

Hello. ;-) I have ordered a Platinum Preppy and am dying to see if it works out for me. I am trying to resist the Safari on the grounds that I have enough pens for my needs, which is kind of ironic.

I think you will like the Preppy for scribbling--I'm not qualified to judge how they serve for sketching.

My next purchase will be more Preppies and the supplies to convert them into eyedroppers, so that I can start playing with inks. Alas, I'm not allowing myself any shopping until I get this current assignment done. :crybaby:

Aloha, Wheatflower:

Welcome to FPN!

Congratulations on acquiring and working with fountain pens. What writer moonlighting do you do? It sounds like you are applying writer's discipline to your efforts not allowing yourself any shopping until you've completed your current assignment. You have very good fountain pens work with. Many FPN members own and comment on how much they very much enjoy their Platinum, Pilot and Lamy fountain pens, often recommending them.

I am happy you've joined us, Wheatflower : ) .

I wish you happy pen trails : ) .

Welcome !

I like the idea of having a second Safari. It can be the one that you

take out with you.

Sometime ago, I wrote to LAMY and asked if there were free samples of the

Safari/Al-star/Vista that I could try. Since they never answered me, I

will share an FYI. LAMY Safari nibs are cheaper thatn LAMY Safari pens,

and they are interchangable. :eureka:

I guess now you won't have one to take out walking with you.

How about a Jinhao x750 for under $10 ? It is a big, tough, good-looking

pen that is 85% reliable. Very affordable.

Write with joy.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
