How Toxic Is Manuscript Ink?

Ex Ballpoint User

Recommended Posts

Well, long story short, I was filling my pen this evening, while rather distracted; Apparently I emptied the pen first into my drinking glass! Little did I know until I just happened to notice my tongue and gums are slightly...blue... oops.. (and no, I didn't fill the pen with Mtn Dew either thank god!)

My question for you, is this ink extremely toxic or will a few stomach cramps be the worst I can expect (not that I have had any yet!) I imagine it isn't anything deadly, but I figured I should confer with my "people.." Lesson learned: 'Don't Fill Distracted!'

I didn't exactly drink the bottle, however it was a piston of it!

Blue inks are probably not expecially toxic, though

I would advise against ingesting fountain pen ink.

Oh ! A bit late, I suppose. Anyway, I would advise

against ingesting fountain pen ink, TWICE. :ltcapd:

Certainly, do not drink brown or red ink.

I think your greatest suffering will come from so many

people asking about the blue tongue.

Write with joy. Drink with moderation.

It could have been much worse, and also much funnier roflmho.gif

I wish upon you the suffering of a thousand mLs of ink! Yuck!

It could happen to any of us. Every now and then I'll leave a pen soaking in a cup to let the ink diffuse out of the nib. Several times I've almost caught myself drinking from that cup. I figure it's only a matter of time.

I'm sure that I've absorbed more ink than that through my finger skin. In the last . . . day.

I often put my coffee in a travel mug with a lid when I'm painting (watercolours). I can't tell you how many times I've dipped the brush into the coffee instead of the water! (Or I just stopped drinking coffee when painting!)

Too bad, or you could've turned bulletproof. There's the beginnings of a superhero story in that somewhere...

Years ago I read a letter to Stan Lee of Marvel Comics, in an issue of _Spiderman_ The author of the letter had let himself get bitten by a radioactive spider but was complaining tht *he* hadn't turned into a superhero....

Stan's Lee's response was on the lines of "Oh, sorry, we forgot to mention that you also have to be pure of heart...." :roflmho:

One of my favorite responses to a letter, EVER....
