Fisher Ag7 Space Pen Broke

Well this sure isn't confidence inspiring. I bought the AG7 as my primary carry pen to do everything. I'm not hard on my instruments, but things happen. So I was on campus today, sitting in a chair. I dropped my pen (albeit, onto concrete) from 2 feet. When I picked it up, the side button on the pen that retracts the point back in no longer worked. So basically the ball point was stuck open.

I e-mailed Fisher and got an extremely quick reply telling me to send it in, so I'm glad to hear they seem to have stellar customer service.

But what the hell, a 2 foot drop? And this is the do-all durable pen?

Anybody have any ideas what what on earth could have happened? I mean, it was concrete I dropped it on, but from 2 feet. What would've bent or gotten out of alignment so quickly?

Did it land on the point of the pen/refill? I have a pen that did this...the refill was shot the mechanism (a solid mechanism) now gets stuck sometimes.

Not sure about the internals of a Fisher AG7 but it doesn't take much for many pens to get some

damage from a short fall. The one I have that fair the best from dropping is the Parker Jotter;

so light it gets very little force when its dropped.

I had an AG7 awhile ago that I got rid of because the refill oozed inside of the body. Remember having fun clicking the pen and it seemed rather solid. Wonder if it was just luck of the draw that yours failed. If you like the refills check out their bullet pens- no moving parts and a very easy carry.

To have built in Heaven high towers; nor did he scape

By all his engines, but was headlong sent

With his industrious crew, to build in Hell

Sometimes it's not how much it went through, just an exact force is needed. I had a phone that I accidentally threw 10 feet from a speeding bike onto concrete, popping out of its case, but surviving unscathed. (don't ride a bike and make calls at the same time). The same phone dropped 3 feet from my pants pocket onto a hard floor, and died. Go figure. Sometimes all it takes a specific force to do something in.

Get a tough cheap pen- +1 on the jotter, and whack a space cartridge in it. I've been underwhelmed with all the space pen's i've tried that are retractable, but love the ink.

Bullet pens are tough as hell, if you can endure a really short pen :D
