Your Best Cheap Pen?

My favorite cheap pen is my Noodler's flex pen, but my best cheap pen is easily my Pilot 78G (every one of them I've used over the years). Never clogs, always starts, never fusses, always fine, always smooth, always a friendly guy.

A yellow Lamy Safari, black broad nib. Probably the best writing nib I own.

Last year I picked up an unused Colibri fountain pen at a local antiques fair for GBP 6 [approx USD 10].

Writes beautifully smoothly - my only [minor] gripe is that the lid does not click on firmly [unless I unscrew the barrel slightly].

I have no idea how much the pen would've originally retailed for, but I don't think it was very much.

Waterman Phileas at £15 new, but a Wearever Pacemaker and a Wearever 100 put in a pretty decent showing for such cheap pens.

Not cheap by some folks standards but to me the best cheap pen I have is the TWSBI 530.

My Dollar 717i cost me Pak Rs 20, which is equal to $ 0.224.

Beat that price if you can.

In addition it is a demonstrator, has a stub 1.1mm left oblique nib, it is a pistone filler, and can easily be taken apart by hand without any tools in a few seconds.

The only problem I have is that it is small for my hand, although when posted it can be used.

I nearly forgot about this one pen I got when I was in France. It's a disposable fountain pen by PaperMate and it's covered with cartoon cats. It has the smoothest nib. Also, it's technically medium but it's a thin medium, which makes me happy. I'd kill to get such a smooth nib on my other pens!

Cello Fountain and Flair Inky - costs less than $1. No skipping and writes very well even after stored and unused for two months.

The pen comes free with Noodler's Heart of Darkness. I used it a lot and it's good. It's not leaking and writes decently. Free and fully functional. I like it

Someone mentioned the Retro 51 Tornedo stainless and I second that. With a super smooth Schmidt nib and relatively compact size it is well made and a super pen for the money. Slighly more expensive than a Lamy Safari but much more pen.

My Parker Vacumatic that I got for under $30 at a book store's antiques section. It's not a cheap pen, but I got it for cheap.

 

For a pen that is actually inexpensive, probably my Pilot 78G with a fine nib or one of my Esterbrook Js.

Platinum Carbon Desk Pen, it has a nice smooth and wet extra fine nib (under .5mm). I can only hope to tune a nib that well someday.

Of the pens I bought new the Hero 100 has been an excellent cheap buy. If only it had a broad or at least a medium nib.

Hero 616 "Doctor." It's not got tooth, but it does have some feedback, which I like. I do like my Preppy 0.3, but because it's so smooth, sometimes I write messier with it. The 616 is smooth but with enough feedback to make me write better... I don't even recall the price, as I'd bought a lot of them off the 'Bay.

Great looking slim 'flighter' style body with a fantastic steel F nib. Great pen for the money. Just a little hard to come by in these parts.

For me, it's my Kaweco Classic Sport that I am using right now. A great traveler, and it cost only $20.

I'm a huge fan of my green plaisir platinum. It writes smoothly, and costs $20 or less. Plus, I like the fun color choices. I always load mine with a green color ink (usually something J. Herbin).
