The Souverän M800 and M1000 series and Toledo M900 series pens have brass piston assemblies that can be easily unscrewed. Lesser models have fixed (non-removable) plastic piston assemblies. This explains why the M800 is much heavier than the M600.

I'm afraid that I'm still a bit confused. I just bought my first Pelikan FP, a Polar Lights, M 640. Is this pen part of the Souveran series, or does the 600 designation refer to the size of the pen only? Thanks for any light you can shed on this issue. vinper

 

 

I can't I am right or not.Polar Light is not Souveran series butSpecial Edition of Premium series.

Polar Light is a M640, that means the same size of M600.

bTW, I hope to add some info.

 

1. I have one west Germany M400( before 1991). It come with a one toned 14c nib too.

 

2. My tortoiseshell brown M400(before 1997) come with a two toned 14c PF nib

 

3. My tortoiseshell shell m450 come with a 18c two toned nib

 

4. In Pelikan Official web site, M300 listed under Souveran but not Classic.

DragonLord - I was on the Pelikan Forum to try and find out how to take apart my M600 having seen sbrebrown use a TWSBI wrench to take apart a Pelikan on one of his shoot-out videos... but got interested in this discussion instead. Be that as it may, unscrewing my M600, I could not understand how sbrebrown had done it. My M205 was the same way... round, black plastic with no place for the wrench to get any kind of purchase. Now - thanks to your information on this thread - I understand... I can do it, but only to my M800 with its brass piston assembly. I cannot try it right now because my M800 has ink in it. I suppose now I will have to buy myself a TWSBI pen just so I can have one of their highly useful wrenches on hand. Thanks for the lesson(s).

Are there any new style M800 with two tone 14C nibs? As far as l know all new style M800 has 18C nibs. Am l wrong?

As far as I can tell, all current production M800 nibs are 18C/750.

All of the 640's are the same shape and yes, they are different than the M600.

The number 400 designates a size and style of writing instrument. Within each series (400, 600, 800, etc.), there are several writing instrument types, including fountain pen, ballpoint pen, rollerball pen, and mechanical pencil. The M (Mechanik-Füllhalter) designates a piston-filled fountain pen. Other types of writing instruments include K (Kugelschreiber) for ballpoint pen, D (Drehbleistift) for mechanical pencil, and R for rollerball. A designation not used in the Souverän series is P (Patronen-Füllhalter), for cartridge fountain pen. A number ending in a zero (0) designates gold trim, while a number ending in a five (5) designates silver-colored trim. There are certain numbers (such as 1000) that have only one type of writing instrument--that is, the oversized M1000 fountain pen.

One thing I'd add is that the lower numbers indicate smaller pens working incrementally up to larger pens. For example the M200 is smaller than the M400, M600, M800. Thanks again for the info. Every little bit helps.

The exception being m300, the smallest of the Souveran line and smaller than m200 from the Classic line.

M200 & M400 are of same size.

Very early after their striped-design appeared in the early fifties with Pelikan 140 this kind oft design got a nickname here in Germany: "Stresemann", named after former Minister oft foreign affaires in the 1920ies.

He and Aristide Briand recieved Nobel-price for peace in 1926 for their peace work between France & Germany after WW1. Unforntunaterly this did not last for long....

Mr. Stresemann invented a new kind oft trouser-design, the so called "Stresemann"

Pelikan waited a very long time, but they eventually released some models in recent years named Stresemann, which are gray and black striped, much like the trousers.
