Best Pen(S) Under $150? (Ballpoint/rollerball Only)

IMO, a $150 BP will perform the same as a .50 cents one. just get a bic stick pen.

Yep just like a cheap Hero copy will perform the same as Parker 51 -- they often look the same, don't they?

Man, a little too much of the fountain pen kool-aid. Why you think the poster is trolling is beyond me. As witnessed already in this thread there are people who post on FPN that like writing instruments in general, be they fountain pens, ball points, rollers, pencils, crayons, etc.

Much the way not all nibs are created equally, so too with BP and RB refills. The same considerations that go into deciding a FP enter in when deciding other writing instruments, e.g the OP said no screw on cap, balance, overall weight, aesthetics, etc.

hmm, sugar rush, probably too many mentos...

You are, of course, entitled to think all ballpoints are the same, but I have never regretted buying a Montblanc 164 for $44 in 1983. Same for my Pelikan K400 and K200.

why, thank you.

I am recommending what I always recommend when it comes to rollerball.

The Lamy swift.

A clicking/button pushing Rollerball that retracts it's clip while the tip is out! You may not think that the clip retracting is an attractive feature until you realised how annoying that thing is always getting in the way on you hand while you write! :roflmho:

It may not be very thin but it is certainly not thick! Good vivid colour refill!

Wow this Lamy pen looks amazing http://www.lamyusa.com/lamy_rollerball_L353_cp1pt.php

I've decided to stay with my Parker Classic for now and just order fine ballpoint ink but when it's time to upgrade, the Lamy CP1 is definitely my #1 choice!!

Thanks for the link!

But I thought you said you don't want a cap?! The CP1 has a cap?!

You should really try and see the difference between a ballpoint and a rollerball... a rollerball so much easier and smoother to write than a ballpoint...

That's a matter of individual opinion rather than an absolute. I find most rollerballs too slick, and I appreciate the greater resistance in a ballpoint, particularly a broad ballpoint. So a rollerball isn't better for everybody, but it might be better for you.

i find this to be a fact. more of a matter of consensus and not just an individual opinion.

maybe not an absolute, but majority rules.

I'd like to recommend something a little different: a Caran D'ache ballpoint pen. They are slim, solidly built and write well. They can be a little hard to find but Amazon sells them for $23 USD. They seem like such a simple pen but when you hold one in your hand and write, it is very comfortable. They also come in several colors.

Get one of these http://www.gouletpens.com/Platinum_Preppy_Marker_s/888.htm

Put one of these in the feed http://www.gouletpens.com/Noodlers_Rollerball_Pen_Tips_p/n18060t.htm

And seal the body off with one of these http://www.gouletpens.com/Platinum_Preppy_O_Rings_p/orings-preppy.htm

Fill it with Noodler's black and you have one of the best rollerball pens on the market.

But I chase pens with guts and vintage nibs.

I have some of these too, but luckily they don't have flex nibs. :) (We'll never agree on this, I don't think.)

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.

Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
