Digital Photo To Postcard Service?

Recommended Posts

There's a service in iPhoto (the Apple photo software) to send photos to a printing service for a hardcopy. The result is a high quality print on Fuji photo paper. Really gorgeous. They also offer to print on a postcard BUT one can only choose one postcard per order which means the shipping fee is really high. Does anyone have a recommendation for a similar third party service?

You might want to look into moo.com. I've printed lots of sticker photos with them as well as mini business cards and the quality is quite nice. What is really nice about their service is that they let you upload one photo per card/sticker/postcard you make. If you are printing 20 postcards (the smallest quantity available), for example, you can upload 20 different photos.

They also run special promotions at times, with discounts of 10-30%.

I've seen peel-and-stick sheets that can be put on the back of any 4x6 photo to turn the picture into a postal card. I don't know about the FP friendliness, but you could try one.

As Octo pointed out, they make a postcard backing just for the purpose of using your own photos. I have tried PhotoPostos and like the product a lot. Check out the following link for more information:

I have some postcard backings that I use with 4 x 6 photos sometimes. It depends on the ink I am using, but I see a good bit of feathering. The ones I have are from the2buds.com. Sometimes, they curl up if the air is damp.

OcalaFLGuy steered me towards a brand of card stock - Georgia Pacific, I think. And it works wonderfully. I do have to test to see which side works best. It almost always works better on one side than the other. I use double-sided tape and haven't heard of any catastrophic failures. I send them worldwide, via postcrossing.

I use moo.com a lot. The resolution on their photo postcard printing is much, much better than that of zazzle.com. However, Moo postcards are NOT fountain pen friendly! They are slick and glossy on both sides, and I only write on them with Sharpies. The fountain pen unfriendliness is most unfortunate, since as ehoh pointed out, it's wonderful that they let you print 20 different images in a pack of 20.

Snapfish offers 4x6 postcards from photos @ 99cents each for 1-19 of the same image. Lower prices for larger quantities, and of course you can order cards from multiple photos. So 100 cards, each with a different image would be $99, plus postage. Order multiples of the same image, and the price drops.

I'm sure other online photo services offers cards as well.

Hope this helps.. Remember, after FPN, Google is your friend!!

Thanks everyone, for the info. I'm currently trying out the sticky backings from the2buds.com which are a tiny bit feathery, but OK using my VP Fermo .5mm cursive italic and the dry Rohrer & Klingner Salix iron gall ink. I stick the backings to iPhoto prints which are very nice and printed on actual Fuji photo paper. I'm thinking of actually pasting a further layer of Rhodia paper on the writing part of the postcard. I've received postcards like that so if it's mental, I'm in good company.

I will report back on the quality of snappish and moo.com.

I've been pretty underwhelmed by the print quality of Snapfish-printed postcards I've received, though I've never printed with that service myself.

I think folks ask questions here because they want a little more firsthand fountain-pen experience than google will provide.

I've used moo.com and found them not to bad, but perhaps they're different on UK side of the Atlantic. Satiny rather than glossy, and the ink has to be left to dry -- be careful where you put your hands when writing. Not ideal, but not truly bad.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
