Bic Disposable Fountain Pen - A Picture Review

I had the same problem with the cap popping off. I looked at it closely, and it had small cracks so that it would spread and pop off instead of gripping the barrel tightly.

I wrapped a piece of cellophane tape (the milky whitish translucent stuff) around the end of the cap and it's been working fine ever since.

I'm coming in late, I know, but they still sell them at Staples for the same price. I went looking, and there they were, right next to the Pilot Varsity.

Shame on me, I had to have them.

They write a nice fine/medium line, but then so does the Pilot B2P (Bottle 2 Pen. Clever,eh?) with green ink that I use a lot.

They are thicker than the Varsity, and as I have large hands, we should get along just fine.

"Longer term" review - I still carry this pen with me every once in a while. Still like it as a smooth steel nib and still on the original ink. (I said "every once in a while", not daily.)

It's still a fountain pent that is "grab and go". If lost or broken, no big deal. I have to take care with my other "cheap" fountain pens, even the good old Parker 21.

That said, I did notice the cap on mine is cracked, too. Maybe they went a little to cheap on the plastic top?

It's not a biggie to me, but I've carried Varsity pens like this one and the plastic cap is just a bit more durable.

Cap cracked on one of mine also. A piece of cellophane tape worked perfectly.

Disposable anything is an abomination. Doubly so for a fountain pen. What are we doing to the planet?

The feeds come out easily with these. Wrap a little paper towel around it and pull it out by hand. Then ED fill (or syringe).

V-Pen, Varsity, BIC etc. all have remarkably good nibs. The ink leaves one wanting but they write well.

I bought my last Sheaffer student cartridge pen over 20 years ago. I wish that model would resurface as a cheap "won't cry if I lose it" pen.

FYI - Staples has coupons for 50% off all Bic products through May 24. Coupons are at Staples.com. Plus you are allowed to use up to 5 coupons at a time.

Just tried the disposable fountain pen today. I have several Pilot Varsity pens, one of which I hacked into a Varsity/Preppy frankenpen with the help of a youtube video. These Bic's are wonderful. The nibs are nice and smooth and the ink handles well on cheap paper. I'm going to pick up more before the sale runs out!

Oh Pahleese. Be serious. What would lead you to believe the pen wasn't recyclable?

I picked up a 2 pack at my staples yesterday as a beginner FP... I find that there is a ton of bleed through, maybe I'm just a bit heavy handed? On the flip side, I did notice a major improvement in my handwriting from just using this pen for an hour or so at home. I enjoyed it so much that I left one home and brought the other to work. The work provided notebooks are very light weight. So the backs of the page are out of the question, and sometimes I sacrifice the next page on the notebook (but I still can't put the thing down). I ended up ordering a few refillable pens just based on my experience with this. If the I like writing with a disposable so much, I'm going to love writing with something a little more substantial!
