Took a break from the drills the past couple days to play. Trying to work on my spacing/composition when doing quotes and such.

Here's a shot of some of my doodles.

I'm adding myself to the unofficial roll, having just received the $15 Mott Media set from Amazon today.

My penmanship isn't bad or anything. I just thought it would be a neat thing to do.

That is crazy beautiful. I wonder what you would produce if you were using a nib you found easy to use. I would totally upvote it if you posted it on the Calligraphy subreddit. :notworthy1:

Edited to ask: How long have you been practising Spencerian?

Thank you medicalcpa. I have still a lot to learn, especially in creating gracefulness and not shade so haphazardly. Unfortunately I am taking a copperplate class at the same time so I get confused! It is a mistake to try to learn two scripts at the same time.

I don't think it would be appropriate to post this in the /r/calligraphy. For one, I consider Spencerian to be more penmanship than calligraphy.

I have practiced since about October last year.

It is more penmanship than calligraphy, but calligraphy is the art of beautiful penmanship, so it qualifies as both in my opinion!

There is /r/penmanshipporn if you want to post it there, or /r/handwriting too...

Just wanted to give everyone posting their examples in this thread a hand! :clap1: :clap1: :clap1: I've tried my hand at Spencerian several times, but there's just something about the technique that I haven't cracked yet. Copperplate is no sweat, but Spencerian?…

I agree, and also I've been noticing the great input everyone gives. THanks especially to Mickey; quite amazing depth of knowledge.

I've got my first flex nibs a couple of weeks ago, and started playing around. I'm maybe ~10h of (not too structured) practice in. These are some practice sheets from last night; still a long way to go...

This thread doesn't seem to get quite as much attention as it used to. Anyone still working on this hand?

Here is one of the (many heh) pages of minuscules I was working on this evening. Just realized I spelled minuscule wrong on the top... oops. :P When there was no room for another line, I filled the remaining space with the closest variant that would fit.

I've just read through and been inspired to start! I have an assortment of dip pen nibs, so I'll rummage through & see if I have something suitable. If I have, in the next few days I'll start to learn :)

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
