Hello Friend,

It is difficult to say. The pH rating for Pilot blue-black is 8.5; this makes it is a bit alkaline in nature; I suspect the pH rating for the PR ink will range between neutral and acidic. I do not have PR DC Electric Blue, so I cannot say what its pH level is exactly. Acids and alkalines generally should not be mixed together; they've been known to explode violently. (Not really, but they can turn to goo and other grotesque manifestations  ).

You have three options:

1. Contact PR via their website and ask them what the pH level is for DCEB, (tell them you want to mix it with a 8.5 ink). If DCEB is 6.0 or below, I’d have my doubts if it would be a good idea.

2. Send SamCapote a PM and see if he knows the pH for DCEB; he was doing extensive pH level tests on a myriad of inks a while back.

3. Fly by the seat of your pants and give it a try. Mix it in a separate container and DO NOT USE IT FOR 2-3 WEEKS. After that time- check out the aroma, fluidity and viscosity; then check for SITB- swirl a CLEAN straw or spoon handle around in the mix-if it comes out with no strings attached- you’re off to a fine start. Go ahead and give it a spin in a pen you won’t mind losing and take it from there. ;)

All the best,

Sean :)

I've been mixing dc super show blue and pilot blue very successfully for a while now.

Ultimately as I said in the PM, it is not possible to know for sure how two inks of different brands, components, preservatives, pH readings, etc. will interact short term and long term. If Lloyd has mixed those two without problems then it should work. If I was going to do it from scratch, I would put 2-3 ml of each in a small plastic vial, and let sit for a few weeks to watch for any chemical interaction (separation, change in color, etc.), then see how it behaves with a cheaper pen for a while before using it in a more expensive pen.

Lloyd, what is the longest you have allowed a mixture of those two to exist?

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

I only mix up a small amount at a time. I'd guess that the longest was roughly 2 months.

+1 on the small quantities and allowing the mix to STEEP for days.

If you don't have the little vials, Goulet Pens sells them with samples of ink in them.

They rinse out and are then find for sending samples to others or making these experiments.

You might also find a plastic pipette (mine were from Pendemonium) or a syringe with

blunt-end needle useful. Those come with the Private Reserve Ink Mixing Kit, the

Write Fill Kit, and others.

May I ask why you want to do this? What color are you looking for? I am just being curious.

I own both, especially 350ml of the pilot Blue-Black. I thought the blue black's shade was very dull and that the richness in PREDCB can be used to set things right.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
