Noodler's Zhivago - Ink Review

Gobblecup

Nice Review!

I'm half-way through my last bottle of MBRG. This looks like a suitable replacement!

I have seen recommendations of this ink to replace RG, and now I'm convinced it is!

Just another small comment. After filling the pen and wiping the nib area, the ring patterns on the paper kitchen towel were rather striking. Black in the middle with a dark green halo or corolla around the outside. I would have photographed it but I draw the line at rooting about in bins.

Any more.

Thanks for the thorough review. I look forward to reading others from you. This will be the first Noodlers color that I am trying.

I just received 3oz of Zhivago! This ink is perfect for me. I love very dark inks, and this blends with my standard trio of Red-Black, Blue-Black, and Brown. With this addition I will have a quartet. Someday soon I'll need to trade the Brown for Walnut to truly have a dark ink musical extravaganza! (All inks are Noodler's Ink)

I'm going to fetch my bottle of this out of the drawer right now. Great review and excellent handwriting!

I too just received my first bottle last week from Goulet Pens, first try is presently with a needlepoint Franklin Christoph Bellus and that fine of a tip certainly makes it appear a strong green-black.

Although I have thought of experimenting with dilution as you have here - too many people have compared this formula to the precious MBRG not to try.

I, however, did not appreciate the bulltproof qualities so thank you for your review and your test results!

Not wishing to hijack but it is comparative to the forthcoming Diamine Salamander. In my opinion, of course.

I really like this very dark green tint.

In Sweden green and red inks are not allowed to use when signing official documents. Do you think Zhivago will go under the radar as a black ink? What I mean is; can I use it to sign documents at work?

Excellent review, Gobblecup...so much so that I just ordered a bottle for myself. I'm really interested in the dilution factor...should be fun to play with (like any of us need more ink).

Well, I don't know how things stand in Sweden, but in UK many forms have to be completed in black ink and I have never had Zhivago questioned. Indeed, whilst it may have a slight green tinge in good light, it is actually blacker than many ball points.

I take the view that the ink is what it is, the bottle does not say it is a green ink and I believe it to be black. No one could really argue against that.

GO FOR IT!

Thanks, I don't think it will be a problem since it's such a dark green. But thanks for your input! :)

Wow, it is great to see it does not loose the basic density and properties after a 3:1 dilution. I would use it for drawing and coloring over it so waterproof capability is required. Nice review! On my list for some day.

I tried a sample of Zhivago yesterday.

BIG dissapointment!

I had expected a dark saturated black line, with a hint of green in it.

What I got was a grey line with a hint of green. Just like the ink was diluted, almost like the 2:1 dilution in the review above. Or maybe just a normal inconsistancy from Noodler's.

Also, the neep creep.....

Great review! I must admit, however, this is not a favorite color at all!

This ink is one of my mainstays. Love it. Very Dark with a hint of olive in normal writing. I always turn the bottle upside down a give it a couple shakes though, before filling. I find it to make quite the difference.

I was thinking that I might have to vial the sample before I fill the pen. I also thought that there were a bit to much water in the feed. Because it sure isn't meant to be that pale as it was when I tried it yesterday.

Ok, I notice that Zhivago has a wonderful green hue when diluted 2:1, so is this dilution done with water? I have never played with ink this way before, so any help would be highly appreciated!

Thank you.

Slight necropost in lieu of a new thread.

On absorbent paper (say, cheap copy paper) will this pass as black on casual inspection? I don't much care for black, so mild subversiveness is encouraged.
