This poll is to determine what FPN members prefer in a fountain pen weight

If you post a reply please give your reasons as to why you prefer a certain weight.

This poll is not about pen balance (That is another poll I hope to start later on) or the physical size of a pen.

Of course some may prefer a larger pen for its greater ink capacity, or some other reason, please let us know which it is.

In addition if you have a favorite pen and like its weight and if you know that exact weight (In grams) please post it. Have fun.

Hawk ;)

I'm so glad the family didn't catch me weighing my pens. I am now officially a woman who weighs her pens!!! I think I've toppled over the edge. My Waterman Carene weighed in at 34g and my Parker Duofold weighed in at 30g. I voted med heavy. I don't like the feel of lightweights they just feel wrong to me. I love my pens.

For me, different weights are good - a change is as good as a rest, as they say.

I don't like a pen that is severely top-heavy, but with a well-balanced heavy pen I can usually write for quite a long time.

Hi,

I like 13-18 Grams since I write a lot, have small hands, and like small pens.

My favourite pens:

Omas Princess Green Arco

Omas Princess Scarlet

Omas Arte Italiana My First Omas Pen

Aurora 88p--larger pen--I like the design and materials, ink capacity, well, you name it!

Aurora Duo Cart--larger pen--well designed

Aurora Madamin

Pelikan M300

I think I like Italian design a lot. No new Omas pens though. I like the current Aurora designs more than the current Omas designs. :(

How about another option: depends on the pen.

I like writing with pens of all sizes and weights, but am rather particular about how much individual pens should weigh (depending on their looks and sizes).

Why, yes. I've been called 'peculiar,' amongst other things. Why did you ask? :)

I voted 'very heavy'. I don't like pens that feel plasticky; you feel there is nothing there. A hefty pen has character, prestige and 'feels' luxurious even when it isn't.

I have no scale, and so I cannot weigh my pens. But I can be pretty sure my preference would be "moderately light" (say, 23g -- which would have fit nicely into the poll) or light. It just seemed to me that a lightweight, smooth-writing pen with substantial girth would give the most comfortable writing experience.

My pens are Pelikan M200, Pelikan M400 (both without section trim rings), Lamy Safari, and PFM-II. I recall the PFM-II (which is out for restoration) being a tad heavier than the others, but not annoyingly heavy. I haven't gotten to write with it much.

I tried a Sensa ballpoint once, and I found it too heavy for my liking. Thus far, it's the only metal pen I can remember using.

My current writer the E-motion (Faber Castell) weigths about 50 Grams, so I think I'm into heavy pens. But the wide barrel means most to me - it helps me get a good grip on the pen, and not move my fingers - I like it heavy, because it makes me think, that the pen writes by itself, and I only have to hold it in position

Henrik

a 149 or a 146 or a duofold is what I prefer for writing

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

My favorite pen is my Cross Townsend Tuxedo, weighing 34 grams with cap, only 16 grams without the cap. I never post caps. I didn't vote because I'm not sure which weight I should use.

I love a heavy fountain pen, so I voted "heavy". I'm pleased to see the Carene weights 34g, that must be the weight I prefer. However I do have some lightweight pens that receive much love and attention from me -- namely my Pelikan M400 WT.

I detest pens that are slim (my old Sheaffer Fashion Pen hurts my fingers), but can live with lightweight ones as long as they aren't too slim, such as the M400 or WM Kultur. My ideal pen, though, is both big and heavy.

I voted medium. My favorite size and weight pen is a Pelikan 800 weighing in at 25.5 grams. I wasn't sure of its weight so I did a search and found a web page that had weigh and size of a lot of pens. I like a pen that is not so heavy that it makes my shirt pockets sag but still feels substatial in your hands.

Carene is as light as I really like to go, tho' the length and balance of a Visconti Van Gogh Maxi or an Ancora Perla will overcome this periodically. However my PERFECT pen is very heavy - the Yard O Led Grands.

I want a lightweight pen. When I pick up a pen to write, I want that pen to disappear. I'm putting ideas on paper. I don't want to have to think about the pen, notice its looks, hunt its sweet spot every five minutes, or fight with weight, or bad balance. I have some pens like that and someday I am going to take them back to the flea market where I bought them. The others can stay as long as they behave themselves. :ninja:
