Akkerman's Shocking Blue

spiv,

thanks for that great review! I love how this ink varies in different nibs. And the bottle is probably the most stylish and functional made nowadays. Where can I order on line? I prefer order from UK (cause the low shipping costs).

Best regards,

Fabricio

They're on available from P.W. Akkerman in Denn Hague Netherlands. They will ship anywhere in the world, though shipping charges are somewhat high they apparently do an excellent job of packing the bottles so they don't break. Last I heard shipping charges were in 2 tiers: one to three bottles, or four to seven bottles. Thus making it advantageous to buy 3 or 7 bottles at a time.

There is only one source for this ink, Akkerman in the Haugue.

http://www.pw-akkerman.nl/

and the man to e-mail with your questions and order is Paul Rutte... paulrutte@vulpennen.nl

The price to ship one (to three) bottle(s) is often the price of one bottle... order three!

You get a MASSIVE amount of ink!(150ml - a little over 5 ounces) Now all you have to do is find 2 more colours you like.

and we'll close off with the other Dutch one-hit wonder Mouth & McNeal and the "how did this get to #1???" song ruining some summer for me (after the Beatles packed it in it was a gold rush for anybody out there...)

Spiv, sorry I just saw your offer. That's quite nice of you. I've been testing inks by immersing then in hot tap water for 25 minutes (saw goodbye to the American Blue), if it wouldn't be too much trouble could you try that. Yes, it's an extreme test but I don't think smearing a wet Q-Tip on a sample really shows you anything.

Hot tap water for 25 mins.. will do. It's no trouble at all, I just have to remember to do it when I go home.

For the record there is a very small amount of feathering in my moleskine and none in my Whitelines. The next time I ink up a pen with SB I will try it on newsprint.

Wow, the Shocking Blue washed out more than the other two Akkerman inks. Thank you so much. This won't keep me from buying any of these inks but I'll know what to use them for now.

Thank you so much for the water test. It's quite important for me, cause I have to use waterproof inks at work. Unfortunately, Akkermans are not water resistant, however I can use them at home on my notebooks and webbies. Another point: It's great to know they're 150ml bottles! 16.50 euros/ bottle or US$ 22,87/ bottle or US$ 0,15/mL Good price in my opinion! And the bottle is gorgeous, not disposable (you can fill with your favorite ink)!

... Unfortunately, Akkermans are not water resistant...

Ink #8 Diep-Duinwaterblauw and Ink #10 Akkerman IJzer-Galnoten bl/zw may have water resistance being Gall based inks

If someone who actually owns one or both of these could chime in, maybe you COULD have a work ink with a funky bottle

  • 8 months later...

I could not help myself but loaded up my Waterman 3 with Shocking Blue. I craved the shading and the sheen. I was scared I would be spending the rest of my life washing it out of the pen. Not so? Great! Love this color. I love the shading and sheen. It's just so pretty. And I am usually tired of blues right away. Not this one.

I haven't had this in any pen for any length of time. I imagine if it dried in a pen it would be nasty, but PR American Blue is actually the toughest to get out of a sac in my limited experiance. I've only had this in two piston fillers and a converter so far, no more flushing than usual (less so with a Waterman ink, more with a Noodler's)... I was actually pleasantly surprised at how readily it cleaned from a Pilot Parallel pen.

Happy scribing.

You need Koh-I-Noor Rapido-Eze pen cleaner. You will never fear clogged or dirty pens again.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
