There is another advantage of my method: In a few minutes, I can reassemble the pictures in another order, or just combine the pictures of the closed and the posted cap of the same pen like this:

That's how I usually do catalog the pens of my collection.

Very nice collection! I am really impressed by all your vintage pelikans, the 400NNs, 400s, 140s!

 

I will be getting my first 400 in a few weeks, a Green/Black, it has taken a while due to it being a trade and international shipping time.

As always, you have superb photography skill, Christof.. Really envy your collection..

What sort of lighting are you using when you take the photo? I find it somewhat difficult to get the light correct when I do mine. If I use flash I get wash out from the reflection, but I have a hard time gathering pleasing non-flash lighting to use without the flash. I've taken tons of pen photos, but they're pretty utilitarian.

just a quick addition. I did also a picture my Pelikan 300. This familiy is quite small - only two colors: Green and Black. These pens are hard to come by. I'm happy that there were only two colors made, haha!

PS: Both are "true" 300 - marked on barrel and cap.

Hi Christof,

I'm curious about the different shades of brown on the same pen. The turning knob and grip sections are two entirely different shades of brown. I have a 500NN that shows the same thing, only in reverse. On mine, the turning knob is extremely dark brown, almost black; and the grip is a much lighter reddish brown.

Did Pelikan have QC issues with the early injection molded plastics?
