Really Enjoying My Sheaffer 727

Hi Ho all,

A little while back I purchased one of the 22k gold plated 727 FP/BP sets from Teri, (no affil), with a fine Triumph 18k gold nib.

Not only do both pens sparkle in a dark room; but the FP has a really smooth and wet writing nib- I have to admit I had my doubts because the nib literally looks like a nail- but it really is a smooth (and wet) writer when it's loaded with QPB. :)

This isn't a review- just a quick little nod to the Sheaffer 727 LS - (BTW, I thought that may be a more masculine way of saying Lady Sheaffer). ;)

All the best,

Sean :)

congrats on using a 727  I have myself a couple of pfms that I use from time to time, very wet writers indeed.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

Hi Sean,

How are you finding the size of the pen for comfortable writing? I've looked at these pens from time to time, but hesitate as I fear they might be a little "thin", as compared to a Parker "51" or the 777 Imperials.

Thanks for any feedback

Hello NXN,

I typically use all of my pens un-posted for starters; especially any (gold) plated models, even with that, I haven't experienced any issues with the length. However, where the diameter is concerned; you may start experiencing a little hand fatigue if you are using it extensively. If you're writing two or more full pages of complete text straight; you would probably want a pen with a little more girth to avoid cramping.

However, if you're looking for a pen for light or intermediate use that will also give you a little professional pizzazz; however, a gold plated, fluted 727 is an excellent place to start- elegant, timeless beauty.

I hope this helps; if not, lmk and I'll try to answer any other questions you have. :)

All the best,

Sean :D

Thanks Georges,

Yes, I really like the Triumph nib- this is my first one. I have several Sheaffers; however, the others all have a standard or inlaid nib, (the inlaid in my experience has always been a little on the dry side)- so I was leery of another "unique" Sheaffer nib, but I threw caution to the wind when I saw how beautiful the pen was in its own right. I'm glad I did! :vbg:

Hi Sean

Glad you enjoy your 727. I got mine also from Teri and it instantly becomes my favorite. Really like the shape of the nib and how smooth it writes.

I can't help but keep thinking about adding another Imperial to the collection.

Hello Roger,

Yes, Teri is pretty good. A somewhat amusing story when I bought it- she didn't know she had any that were extra fine... and that is the one she sent to me. I ran that thing through an ultrasonic 3 times and couldn't figure out why I was getting such a skinny line. Then I got a magnifying glass and examined the nib and the label on the cap and discovered the pen I had was an X-Fine.

I had thought I had a pen with a clogged channel that was only letting a small trickle of ink through- the pen was exchanged for a Fine- and I love it. A very wet writer that leaves a line on the paper that you can see. ;)

All the best,

Sean :)
