Duofold Nib Serial Number

Can anyone tell me if the serial number on my 1930's vintage Duofold nib is simply a serial number or does it have specific information about the nib (date of manufacture, size, etc)? The number on my nib is: 0034862. Any information would be appreciated.

According to the Parker Duofold book by Shepherd and Zazove, the number on your pen was introduced in 1928 with the release of the Pearl and Black Deluxe Doufold to "enhance the the prestige of the nib and pen". They are not specific as to what this number actually represents but it is most likely a serial number. Does your nib also have a date code number such as 44 or .3.?

Thanks for getting back to me. I was beginning to wonder if anyone would respond.

The nib simply has:

PARKER

DUOFOLD

0034862

MADE IN

U.S.A

2

The two is at the base of the nib and just where the nib enters the section, so I can't tell if there are any other numbers besides the 2. Also the two is at a right angle to the rest of the printing on the nib. I've indicated the relationship of the 2 not it's orientation. Short of removing the nib I can't tell if there are additional numbers. The pen is what I believe is called a streamlined duofold and is 5 1/8" long capped. The nib is fairly large so I wouldn't think that the two would be an indicator of nib size.

I had looked on the Parker forums earlier posts but couldn't find anything on the nib serial numbers. I also looked at several other websites but couldn't find the information I was looking for.

I don't know if the additional information gives you any more clues.

Thanks much

I have number 0012163.

After crawling the web I suppose that nib numeration was sequential and contain no code.

So the one thing we can understand from number - is the one nib (and pen) has been produced later than another).

It seems it is only on the deluxe nibs from Parker Duofold

Interesting, thanks for suggestion. I have seen different versions with numbered nibs, but can`t say they were all authentic.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
