Medeiros...... the ALVAREZ pen test... for posterity...:notworthy1:

:meow:

I'm still having issues with the ink capacity!:gaah: Today was another day of hospital rounds with plenty of documentation and thank heavens I took the other fabulous Visconti that I have*, the Voyager in M nib. Out of gas again!

Ok, another issue with the pen that can be resolved: porosity! Lava rock = pumice, no? Even if it's mixed with plastic, this material ABSORBS. I found that when I changed inks - from Gray Flannel (pen is gray) to Purple Mojo... pen is ..Purple!!!:yikes:

Somebody wrote in the Writing Instruments section/forum that also the yellow cloth that comes for the brass shining also stains the pen, which those of you who compulsively shined the brass can notice.

Ok, got a toothbrush and mild soap and brushed the pen. After drying, the pen turned to a whitish gray!!!! Good news is that the oil from my skin brought back the dark lustre of the pen. This is very interesting for it is a material that interacts literally with the user's hand. Very "organic" !

Therefore, if you're VERY finicky with how clean your pen has to look, not being porous and ending with stained fingers, etc... this pen may NOT be for you.

* one Visconti Voyager with a "regular" 18k nib that is very smooth and responsive

I can't imagine running out of ink in my Hs in one day. I generally slowly pull the filler all the way out, and push all the way in 2 or 3 times. I don't know what the ink capacity is, though. This model tends to be a bit on the wet side.

Another suggestion has been to wait 10 seconds after pushing the plunger down into the pen (while the nib is completely submerged in the ink). This gives the ink time to fill. Do this two or three times as Jeffrey suggests.

The Alvarez Hypothesis

states that 65 pages ago a large Italinoid fountian pen impacted in the Gulf of Inxaco, causing a massive disruption to the writing instrument flora and fauna of the FPN member's collection.

By the way; "fountian" was the original research term before new evidence demand it be re-designated fountain pen

I am so glad that I wasn't the first one to think:

Sonia Alvarez -> lava -> volcanic catastrophe -> meteor -> Gulf of Mexico -> dinosaur extinction -> Alvarez tooth test -> Homo sapiens

I'm not sure of the exact order. It goes to darned fast in my mind.

Super sized LOLZ there Jeffrey

Thanks to my momentary recall of a scene in a little known film Free Enterprise, where the main film nerd is quizzed by his then girlfriend about this, only to blind her with his knowledge of it.

Actually, Sonia is not far from the real impact crater; just over her back yard of a Caribbean pond. That's why there's all that black liquid under the sea there.

I just hope her HS doesn't leak like BP (Ball Point) did along the coast

It would be worth signing up for ancestry.com just to find out if Luis Alvarez and Sonia have distant Spanish blood relatives.

        etc.....

And Bast**** Polluters (BP) are still "nickeling and diming" to pay all the affected people... AND they still deny that the oil that still gushes out of the marshes is due to their leak a year ago....

Sorry, this one is dead. He's the one who found a layer of iridium (for our nibs) geologically at the same period of dinosaur extinction.

Thus, it all fits together now....

Sonia Alvarez Luis + iridium from meteor fountain pen nib lava flow from meteor lava in Homo sapiens tooth test (go back to the beginning of this line).

An update with this pen.

I really love the feel of this pen, the ergonomics, the nib and the material. Does not tire my hand...BUT it skips! it leaks! :gaah: BIG TIME!

Should I say another good Italian product made mediocre due to poor QC?????

Another trip to Italy together with the Stipula Model T

This is why I have never bought a visconti because of their very finicky quality control, hell even my 1979 mb 149 has never leaked a single time nor failed me since may 2007. Even with two my erutrias and my omas 360s and my new paragon, I never got a single problem.Buy a Pelikan or another MB149 to compare what a good and reliable pen is and what something finicky and unreliable is.

I feel your annoyance :(

If you really like the pen, don't give up. It's a great pen. If it leaks, probably it's was made in the early or mid- 2010. Visconti repaired the leak issue in late 2010/jan2011. Apparently all pens this period season have the problem.

Some people here repaired it themselves : you can remove the nib by unscrewing. Use a thick towel/cloth to pick up the nib. Uncrew it gently and be careful with the feeder fins under the nib, cause they can be cracked easily. After remove the nib, put some silicone grease on all around the threads of the nib. Screw it. Done!

Or you can send to Visconti. Problably they will repair the skipping issues/ leak for free.

Another solution is send the pen to a great nibmeister. Maybe, it'll give the best results!

If I had the problem, I would send it to the Visconti. IMHO, it's the right thing to do. This is a Visconti problem, not a customer's problem, moreover Visconti will receive a feedback of their quality control.

Let us know what you will do with the pen.

Bom dia Medeiros:

I absolutely love this pen! In spite of the stained fingers, the fact of having to pump the vacuum system (and incurring into ink disasters more than twice), I refuse to let it go since I bought it. It's illogical! I mean, a pen that gives me trouble but I cannot take it out of my rotations!:headsmack:

I have Pelikans, a Nakata, even my Visconti Voyager that is an excellent writer; my 149MB, and a myriad of pens and I STILL CANNOT LET GO THIS PEN!!

I just love the feel of this pen in my hands and the nib. It is very smooth but yet gives you a grip of the paper.

I'd rather then wait the time I would to send it to Italy. I once had to send an Omas and it took forever due to summer break, festivities, you name it. I'm not sure if a nibmeister would want to tinker with this vacuum system which is truly Visconti's business. I will keep you guys updated.

Now, would I recommend this pen? Absolutely but without the problems I'm encountering -some people may not be that patient.
