Cursive Italic 0.7 Mm Or 0.9 Mm?

Ouroboros

Recommended Posts

Well the trigger has been pulled. I've ordered a black Pelikan 205 with a 0.9 cursive italic nib. It will ship out on Saturday and with any luck I'll have it in 2 - 3 weeks. Thanks for all the help and advise.

Perfect!

I'm looking to get a cursive nib from Richard Binder - who is probably sick of having to answer all my questions

I sure he too is keen for you to get the pen that is right for you.....

I know this might be a daft question.....have you thought about sending him a scan of your handwriting and asking him which he would advise?

I suppose I am lucky that I had the ability (understanding wife...) to just keep buying nibs from him to find out what I liked - Which I found was that I have no great preference for nib size or style, each has its purpose for me.

I have Binder grind M250s in EF full Flex,0.6mm Stub, 0.7mm CI, 0.9mm CI and 1.1mm Music Stub, also have a M800 0.7mm CI and Bexley 0.9mm CI.

I must say that Lamy 1.1mm Italic I used in the writing is so smooth it is closer to Stub, whilst the 1.1mm I have with my Lamy Joy is much crisper.

All of my Binder CIs are on the crisper side of cursive but I can still write quite quickly with them on good quality paper.

I just flushed the ink tonight and wrote a few lines with a Sheaffer Imperial (Dark Blue, Gold cap, 14k nib) that Richard CI'd for me in Atlanta. That nib will make you cry. WAY too much line variation for as smooth as it is. My Masuyama CI's/Sharp stubs are just as smooth but don't have quite the line variation.

Maybe it has something to do with starting out with such a smooth (Waverly type) nib but this nib almost should not be able to be this smooth with this line variation.
