Bexley Factory Tour

I received a post card from the Bexley Pen Company last month announcing that they will now sell their pens from a retail store located at the factory site in Columbus Ohio. The postcard also mentioned that if I stopped by, I would be treated to a tour of the factory. Since I had to be in Columbus for other reasons, I took the opportunity to drop by the factory for a tour. I was greeted by Howard Levy, president of the company, who showed me around his factory wherein they turn long blocks of acrylic, or other plastic material, into functional works of art. Howard is a gracious host and I wish that the day had permitted me to ask more questions, but my ride awaited and I had to leave too soon.

The tour was a most enjoyable experience and Howard a welcoming and pleasant host. I encourage anyone who has the opportunity to visit the Bexley factory and see how their functional works of art are created. The only difficulty will be resisting the temptation to increase one’s credit card bill by purchasing one of their exquisite pens. :clap1:

Hot Dog! I live near Columbus. I know my son (near Cleveland) will want to visit, too. Great way for some quality father/son sharing.

Is a reservation required?

The "tour" idea is really awesome, especially given that Bexley is one of the remaining few US pen manufacturers left.

I'm not sure that I could have resisted from buying a pen like you did. ;)

Hot mustard was never meant for steak.

I was not aware of the factory tours, so thanks for the information. I think it is a great public relations idea, and a wonderful courtesy for regular customers. I have a couple valid excuses to be in the Columbus area, which is driving distance from my home in central Pennsylvania. I just might make it to a tour.

By the way, as someone else asked, are reservations required/recommended?

Wonder if they would consider group tours during the Ohio Pen Show?

This is likely not possible, as Howard will be at the show, not at the factory. :)

A call to the factory first is in order to be sure that they are open and available for a tour. The number is (614) 351-9988. If you are able to make the tour before the end of the month Howard will give you a very nice table of paper that features one of his works of art at the top. :cloud9:

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
