abridge version.... anything better about straight forceps over curved? and where do i buy alligator style forceps in person?

long version

hey there. so for getting things out i'm looking to buy some forceps. i saw the alligator one that are angled from where the hing is at, of coures this allows you to see in teh barrel as u work without ur hand blocking the way, but i have a qusetion.

because of the angling away from the axis do you loose leverage? i mean like those straight forceps do they happen to have strong grip power? I can't imagine those angled ones having as much tork as say needle nose pliers, or am i under estimating them? any ways i was thinking the ones that go along the axis might have more torque/grip power, or in general pen repair the angled ones are more than strong enough to handle any typical job?

then i was wondering where would i buy one? i knwo tehre is ebay yeah or online retailers, but i mean in person, i tend to be those people that like to feel/see what i buy in person when it coems to tools, because online tools can be made very cheaply and you can't tellt he diff, or a cheap tool coudl be very comprable n save me the money. I tried ace hard ware.... city mill... and a hobbitat near me that deals mostly in fishing and model supplies but they don't have any type of forceps. they all got ur average needle nose pliers though

where does one purchase forceps in person? i know they use the thin ones in surgery and what not, but i can only imagine surgical forceps r mad expensive.

thanks you to any one that can shed some light.

my ign use to be da smart r**ard (oxymoron of course), but mods changed to dasmart, so don't think i'm arrogant or pompous, just more so bad luck with my own ign lols

I would think a curved pair would be too wide to fit in a barrel. I use mine to remove/install j bars, and the straight one works fine. I've seen them at flea markets, and Harbor freight, I think. Ebay and Amazon if you can't find them locally. Even the cheapest ones I've seen are adequate.

I recommend the right-sized alligator forceps sold by Richard Binder:

Richard's Forceps

I see from the message on his site that Richard is convalescing from shoulder surgery...get well soon if you see this!

I have both curved and straight forceps (hemostats technically), the curved ones are unacceptable for their reduced movement within the narrow barrel.
