Parkers Duofold & Victory

Hi,

I hadn't realised that there was a brand specific forum, so initially posted this in the general pen section. Anyway ..

I went to a local Auction today to bid on a couple of items for my partner, and couldn't believe that I'd missed a couple of pens when going through the catalogue. It meant me hanging around for another 1/2 hour or so, but thought I'd might as well as the items that I'd planned to bid on i got for a lot less than I'd budgeted for.

These two had an estimate of £20 - £40, but I was expecting them to race passed the above estimate ... I finally picked them up for £30 + £5.40 !!

Pen One

A Parker Victory inscribed

'Geo.S. Parker Parker Victory Reg TM'

The nib

Parker 14K England 20

Pen Two

A Parker Duofold Inscribed

'Geo.S. Parker Parker Duofold Made in Canada

The nib Also made in Canada - see photo

They both seem very sound, with the only problem being with the Duofold. If the small black cap, holding the clip in place, is screwed tight, then the cap does not fully screw onto the pen... loosen the black cap, and the pen and cap screw well together .. almost as if the nib is too long!

Not tried them yet, but I may just get them serviced anyway.

They came with a spare 14K nib 'Parker 14K Pen N'

Also a Waterman box! I don't think I'll be adding Watermans to my collection, but I'm sure there's someone out there who needs a red waterman box!

I've done a bit of research already, but can't seem to pin either of these two down, so if anyone has any info on these two would be great!

Thanks

Also the cap will always screw on a little farther without the blind cap/inner cap- the black part on top. The reason this happens is the inner cap is suppose to fit snugly against the section- the back part the nib fits in- to slow ink evaporation when the pen is inked, that's probably your problem. I have four different Duofolds and they will all do that when the black end is removed. Also your nib may need to be pushed in farther, the end of the nib should not touch the inside of the blind cap.

Also you can probably repair the pens yourself, button fillers are easy to re-sac. Just take a look around the Repair Forum, there are a lot of threads about Duofold and Parker Challenger repairs- both button fillers.

I'd rather spend my money on pens instead of shoes and handbags.

Hi LedZepGirl,

Thanks for that advice, and I will certainly look into it. These were pretty much impulsive buys, I don't have any Parkers, just a small collection of Conways and Mabie Todds, in fact the only Parker I own is an inexpensive Stainless Steel one which I bought new for everyday use c. 20 years ago, and it still gets used.

It seems to be fairly simple to date Conways and Mabies, but I'm having difficulty with these two.... are there any good reference sites?

Thanks

Mario

The Duofold you have there is a 'streamline' Duofold, they were produced from 1929 to about 1936 in the US, I'm sure Canadian production was about the same. My guess is it's a junior sized pen, judging from the photos, I don't know how big Parker Victory's ran because they were not available in the US. A junior streamline Duofold should be a touch over 12cm- at least the US produced pens.

Hi,

Thanks for that info ....The Duofold is a touch over 13cm, I think it possibly just looks smaller in the pics. Would that still make it a Junior? The Victory is the same. Open the Duofold is c 17cm and the Victory 16.5.

Thanks

Hi Again,

Following your identification I searched for a Streamline, and came up with this one, which looks very much like mine, except mine is Canadian make and has a Duofold Canadian nib.

Sorry .. forgot the link.

£160 !!! :yikes: Is that what they fetch?? If so, that was a fortunate buy, I'd be happy if it were priced a quarter of that.

I'm hoping to clean it up today and give it a trial run, see how she writes!

I have nearly 50 of the English Duo,Victory, Valentine pens and can say that the size varies and there is almost a continuum of size range.

The colours are amazing too.

This is one of my trays a couple of years ago.

I wish some of those funky colors were available in the 'States. It seems it's very easy to come across red, jade and black in the wild and anything else for high prices on fleabay.

I'd rather spend my money on pens instead of shoes and handbags.

You're lucky there, for the past year all I've had is bad ebay luck. It seems whenever I find something I want to bid on, everyone else sees it and the price goes nuts or some idiot has some smartphone sniping app. Or it comes and the person lied in the description. Last fall I received a slim Parker Challenger in the mail instead of a regular sized one like promised. :bonk:
