Large Sheets Of Blotting Paper

Judybug

Recommended Posts

For many years I've bought large sheets of blotting paper (refills for desk blotters) at our locally-owned office supply. It came in green, brown, and red. I found out yesterday that they don't carry it anymore.

I see that Amazon has "Cosmos blotting paper" in large sheets in white, but the only reviewer who uses an "ink pen" (I assume this means fountain pen?) says this paper is not very good for blotting purposes.

Do any of you know of a good source for large sheets of blotting paper - preferably in something besides stark white?

I've got some 24" x 19" -- green.... but so far have not figured out a good way to ship them. They are too heavy to roll smoothly.

I know both the Goulets and The Writing Desk carry the J. Herbin blotting sheets. But those come only in white and pink.

In some things in life it's better to take a Zen approach. If you think too much you won't achieve your goal, wheras if you don't think and let yourself go, it shall be achieved with ease. I find this helpful in writing, kendo and music.

Blick arts has huge sheets for $2.39. The downside is you have to cut it yourself.

I really like the J. Herbin blotters. Just wish they came in big sheets.

From what I can see this is the Cosmos blotting paper that gets mixed reviews. Don't know what to think. I see it's endorsed by the English Watercolor Society so I'm thinking it may be good for watercolor painting, but not so good as a blotter? I don't know.

This looks like just what I'm looking for - although I don't need a 5-sheet package. I'm hoping jbb will say she sells green blotter paper. :puddle:

Don't know where you find them, but get a shipping tube.

I've got the shipping tubes and I THOUGHT :bonk: that was going to work but the blotter paper is nice and heavy  and doesn't roll easily or smoothly. :crybaby:

BTW: You can get FREE Priority Mail shipping tubes from the USPS in two sizes. :D

Would a large sheet of construction paper from Michael's or Hobby Lobby do the trick?

Let there be light. Then let there be a cat, a cocktail, and a good book.

The paper is not even close. Construction paper is firm and rigid. There is a softness to blotter paper, that is what makes it nice to write on. Blotter paper would feel more like felt than construction paper.

Amazon has a different supplier than just Cosmos. I have some but have not used it yet. Comes in Brown and Blue and fairly reasonably priced.

If JBB and you can not work it out this may be an option...was shipped in a big flat box, arrived VERY rapidly. Blue is cheaper...I don't know why! I have brown (which may be the answer as I bought the brown even though it was more expensive!)

Roseanne Roseannadanna was right: There's always SOMETHING! Good to know about the tubes being available from USPS.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I need this blotter paper for the slope area on the English campaign desk that I mentioned in a previous thread. I don't need a whole big sheet - just a piece that's about 8 in x 9 in - which, of course, is bigger than the J. Herbin blotters.

Anyhow - jbb has agreed to cut her big blotter paper in quarters to mail it to me. I can trim each quarter to the exact size when it gets here. Thanks, jbb!

Judy - try your local art and craft shops as opposed to stationers. Here in Australia you can sometimes pick up large sheets of blotter there as they are sometimes used for other purposes in craft work.

I needed some blotter paper for inside my journal. After doing some research I found that art supply stores carry it.

I trooped off to my local Art Supply store, asked about blotter paper and they led me straight to it. The good part was they had a couple of weights and it was approx. $5 US per sheet. The bad part was that it only came in 24x36" sheets. I no have almost a lifetime supply for my pocket journal :)

WoW !

If I had an ink blotter holder like that I would write all of the time. Beautiful and the paper's my fav color too !
