Is there somebody, bitten by wanderlust bug, to click and upload pictures of Delhi and NCR pen shops?

I've had the same request. Don't think there's much of an "old pen" scene in NCR. There are some rumours of old pen shops around Sadar Bazar (which I failed to locate so far). I've done most of my rummaging in Calcutta, Bombay, and Hyderabad. That apart, I've spotted some old Sheaffers being sold at the Sunday Chor Bazar at Daryaganj. Picked up my second Lamy Safari from there last month.

Would be great if some old timers could throw some light here.

Regards,

Rahul

I have been to sadar bazar delhi and was highly disappointed as there's no pen shop having FPs except montex and parker..the old calcutta pen shop was not more than a book sellers shop with not even a single FP ....

As an update: Came across a small hole-in-the-wall operation at CP, called NR Pen Stores. The old man there stocks a bunch of old pens, Pelikans, Parkers, Sheaffers et al. I'm yet to give a detailed report, but you could check it out here: 13, Regal Building, Sansad Marg, Connaught Place, Connaught Place New Delhi, Delhi 110001

Cheers,

Rahul

well, rahul that seems interesting.

in south we hardly find premium fountain pens commonly now, except parker. there are some high end stores selling western pens, but the small stores have all shut down long ago. of course indian fps are being sold now in almost all shops but the demand is low. as for the western pens demand is also low because of the cost.

rgds.

krishna.

ladies and gentlemen write with fountain pens only.

On the contrary, if you move just a touch north to Andhra, there are a number of indigenous pen makers in Rajamundhry and Hyderabad, who make lovely hand-lathed ebonite pens. There are many old shops in Madras as well. One of our oldest FPN members from India, Hari has documented pen shops in Chennai in detail. You can find his post in the forum. Also, what about the shops around Palace Road in Thrissur?

Thrissur has a local pen scene?, must look the next time. There are a few excellent old shops for handmade bronze items, if you ask me. I have visited Thrissur several times, my favorite temple complex Vadakkum-natha Kshetram and its famous pooram festival.

There are several pen shops that are here in Delhi where you could definetly procure all the vintage delights.

Pen corner in Nehru Place (will post my collection soon which i bought from them) .They have a facebook profile with the same name.

Vandana Book Shop.I did talk to the seller. He has a few vintage sheaffers and Parker 51,61's.

NR Pen Stores. Thanks to RahulG .Good collection.Paid a visit yesterday.A very good collection they've got. They have some Indian ebonites for sale as well (MISAK..i remember this brand from shrujaya's post)

Diplomats Gallery (Malviya nagar).very high priced .Caters to high profile clients.

Luxury Gifts by Nikki (District Centre Janakpuri) Vintage Sheaffer only.

And Rahulg ,thanks for the update on on NR Pen Stores and Daryaganj.I did procure a Parker 61 and two variants of Parker 45 from there.

The Doric Student i procured at NR Pen stores.

The full view of the black beauty

The pens has got Doric Student Made In India engraved on it.

The lever filler works smooth.A local nib is fitted on to it.However given its age it still writes well.

Worth it.

Hi folks,

This comes a bit late, but here's a photo of N.R Pen Store at Connaught Place in Delhi. You can see Mr. Ramesh Makhijani and his son Neeraj in the photo. They are wonderful people, and gave me a good deal on a 14k P45 nib today, which gave up an opportunity for this photo.

Ah, nice pic, typical scene of pens held by rubber bands, similar stalls in the Mumbai fort area as well.

How much did you pay for the nib? I picked up a NOS 45 flighter GT with 10K nib and squeeze converter last week for about 500/-

HI Hari, thanks for the kind words, and I completely agree with the bit about the similarity to the Fort area shops. A trip to Flora Fountain is practically my pilgrimage whenever I'm in your part of the world, thanks to your detailed pen guide. -_-

Compared to Bombay, the prices are obviously higher; I paid INR 600 for the nib unit. But beggars can't be choosers et al.

Hope you're doing well. Look forward to a pen hunt if I'm ever in town.

Regards,

Rahul
