Stipula Etruria Grande Amber

Hetty

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am interested in buying a Stipula Etruria Grande in Amber. I don't mind if it is a piston filler or a converter. I live in the UK. Can anyone advise me of the best places to buy one of these pens, please?

Thank you for your help.

I don't know if they are still made but you can try Novelli.it for the Ambre or Giardino.it for an Etruria version called the Fiesole. They're both in Italy so there's no customs charges.

I have a c/c version of the Fiesole and it is a very nice colour - lighter than the Ambre with golden flecks and bluish 'veins'. Well worth a look.

Hi Hetty,

The Etruria Amber Grande really was the original Etruria, as in, the first Etruria to be produced by Stipula. Since then, there have been several incarnations of the Amber version. Currently there is the Etruria Ambra "Vintage", which comes as a piston filer with 18K duotone nib, or a c/c version with a 14K rhodinated nib.

Other than those, currently available are the Alter Ego, which is an orangy red celluloid with dark red veining, also in PF or c/c, and recently the Voyeur has become available, but the latter is not readily available yet.

Then there is of course the Fiesole DeLuxe, as Susanna indicates, which is made from a lovely antique celluloid. I have all 4 versions of this particular one, the Santa Fe Pens c/c, the Fiesole PF, the Fiesole DeLuxe PF, and the Fiesole Light c/c. The latter two I got from Susanna - great experience as always, recommended (no affiliations, just a very happy customer). The Fiesole DeLuxe is special in that it not only has gold trim (vermeil), but also has a yellow gold 14K nib - almost impossible to come by, so very, very special.

Finally there is also our own FPN group buy here - just check the store

However, you will have to be a little patient for any of those - we need to sell enough for them to be manufactured at the prices indicated.

Thank you, everyone, for all your replies. I did see an Etruria grande Ambre on Art Browns website and contacted him yesterday but have not received a reply so far. I will also look into the Fiesole Deluxe, but fear it may be too expensive. I am tempted by the FPNs Etrurias but they are blue and I have had my heart set on an Amber for ever since I saw one on FPN almost two years ago. I will contact Susanna.

Many thanks.

Susanna,

I have sent you a pm about the Fiesole Deluxe. Sorry, I didn't get back to you yesterday. I work late in the evenings and don't get home until after 10pm and then often too tired to do much.

That seems really good value, Susanna. You're right, I am surprised!

I'm torn because I want this one and the Italy unification pen (and of course, the 15th anniversary Passaporto.) I think I might need help pulling the trigger...

Don't forget that importing from outside the EU incurs import duty on top of the price of the pen.

If it is the pen you really want then you'll take the pain but just keep it in mind when you budget.

Well, I have done it. I have ordered the Fiesole Deluxe from Susanna. I hope I've done the right thing but am eagerly awaiting it's arrival. It looks a beautiful pen. I will let you all know when it arrives and thank you once more to everyone for all the information and help.

Now I just need some Visconti Saffron ink!

Good call - enjoy.

Saffron? - Hmmm - must look at that one.

Edit: Aha - got me there - do you mean Sepia? The only Saffron I can find is Caran D'Ache (orange).

As another UK-based Stipula fan I can only say "good call" too - the Fiesole is stunning.

In fact all Etrurias are wonderful pens. I prefer the lighter non-piston version myself, but both tick all the right boxes - comfortable to hold, beautiful to look at, terrific nibs, great build quality - what not to like!

I really hope you like it.

Great choice! The Etruria Fiesole is gorgeous. I love that celluloid! (I really like most of the celluloids used in the Etrurias- the 991 is gorgeous, so was the Volterra and the Alter Ego is stunning also, and the Amber.....) I just picked up an Amber piston fill Etruria (3rd hand? I'm owner #3 that I know of). It's amazing! It isn't one of the first run as it has the slightly concave grip. However, the style of the clip is different from the new one, so I think it might be the second production (The Amber/Ambra has had several incarnations with small changes here and there). I took some photos the other night and maybe if I have time tonight I'll do a review. One Etruria certainly makes you want another! They are simply lovely pens- both to write with and look at!

I've just submitted and paid for a celluloid blue Etruria, through the FPN store. Any idea of when the pens will be sent out? I'm confused - do we need to wait for a quota?

Yes, they need a substantial number of pens paid for to get the machines rolling.

So far many FPNers have voted for a pen, but now it comes to actual ordering and paying it seems like everybody is away on a looooooong vacation. The Italian vacations are notorious, but FPN beats them by far.

So come on guys and dolls, if you voted, go to the store, order and pay.

If I could afford the celluloid FPN Etruria, I'd go for it in a heartbeat. I was very lucky w/ the used Amber, and it still pushed my price limit. I wish my pen budget was bigger! Otherwise, I will at least get the passaporto or Modello T (I don't have anything w/ a titanium nib.) The Passaporto is a cute little booger! I wish the FPN version had the italic nib option, but the thought of the portability + the ink capacity makes the Passaporto a good option either way as a pocket pen.

Well, the Fiesole Deluxe arrived safely today, along with a Passoporto 15 that I though I might as well buy at the same time as it was on offer. I paid for the pens on Friday and they arrived today. Excellent service.

The Fiesole is absolutely stunning and the nib seems amazing even though I have only had a quick play when I got in from work. My worry is that I may now be spoilt and want more Stipulas and I'm not sure that I have the budget to obtain them!

Does anyone have any good suggestions for an appropriate ink colour for the Fiesole, please?

Many thanks for all your input on this pen: it is much appreciated.

Um...this is the Stipula Grande Amber, thread, right?

They come up from time to time. The oldest examples with solid 9kt gold clip and bands are very nice to have; the design and materials are gorgeous.

Agreed, the first version is a beautiful pen, particularly if you don't make a habit of losing it. :roflmho:

The weight and balance are best on that pen if you light your pens on the light side. It's followed by the convertible, which uses the same celluloid as the current piston filler. The current production piston fillers are the heaviest, and in my hand the balance is way off. I should probably ditch mine. :P
