Wanna See Some Pen-Repair Tools

I noticed you said, I bought cheap tools because they wear out....just want to point out, if you buy quality tools, you dont need to replace them.

Thats why mechanics pay such high dollar for quality tools that wont strip or crack or bend or break...so maybe spending that extra couple dollars would prevent you from needing another in a couple months.

Otherwise, its a great video. I learned a decent sum about them in general so thanks a lot!!

Tyler,

I'm stuck on how you wore out a nib block. OK it was made from wood but how did you wear it out, I've got to ask. I just want to toss it out there that removing the nib/feed from the section is usually not required.

Did you get a nib block? Not that I think they are necessary, just curious if you got one. That reminds me, did you get the lathe? I heard you were going to take the plunge but have not been following most of the FPN world. (A critical project has been tossed at me so time is tight.)

I'm also glad I now see that 'framing hammer' in proportion.

Late-

Hey Todd,

Yes, my knock out block was wearing somewhat, in strange ways. It was made of some "press-board", and was not taking my use/abuse well. I think the glue used to make the board was getting messed up or something...

Yes, I did purchase a nib block - one of the ones Ian is producing. It's incredible! Love it. Was a very reasonable price too.

No lathe yet - but I'm been saving for a while now. It's a big investment for me, and I want to be sure to get a good one. On top of that, I need to learn how to use it. :P

Love the framing hammer. Still a great tool, though it's ugly to be sure. :)

A very wise reply. Since making this video, I've definitely learned this lesson. A lot of the tools you see here are replaced by much nicer ones.

I've now learned the great saying: I can't afford to buy cheap tools. Very true.

There are sometimes rare occasions where I know I need to abuse a tool, and I know I'll probably hurt it. In those cases, I still reach for a cheap tool as opposed to a nicer one.

Glad you enjoyed the video!

Need a pen repaired or a nib re-ground? I'd love to help you out.
