Question how much is it to have a custom made pen turned out of say aluminum or steel. It will be full metal construction designed to take the parker standard refill. Just curious.

You may want to clarify if you mean fountain pen, ballpoint, or rollerball.

I have to admit, I have always found it a little irksome that most custom pen makers don't post prices.

And how is one supposed to post a price in advance on a custom item when just what that item will entail is not known? :)

If one posts images of previous custom items and what one did/would charge for them, then the newcomer will have some idea of how one's work is priced. :-)

pvector, I would start with this thread:

This is exactly what I was talking about. Obviously it is impossible to know an exact price, but it would be nice to know what order of magnitude we are talking before everyone's time is wasted by pointless equerries.

I think some clarification is in order. The point of this particular subforum "Pen Turning and Making" is not for penmakers to market their products, but rather to share with one another, and with those interested, what they have been doing - sharing tips and techniques and such. In a forum like this, is would be rather inappropriate to start listing prices. Those who wish to sell their pens on FPN will list in the "classifieds" section where a price will indeed be noted.

Cheers,

Ken

yeah, either charge by hour or something solid, bad marketing on their part

I wouldn't call it bad marketing. After all, if I were to say that the pen above could be made for $20USD, and then I sent a banged up piece of aluminum pipe with a Bic BallPoint refill stuck in it....you'd probably be a bit upset(I would!).

Custom pens need to be talked over with the builder/craftsman so that both parties involved get exactly what they need. And there really isn't a way to put an hourly rate on something like that.

theres only one way to truly get what you want, make it yourself, except that requires a lot of tools and equipment.

Ken, the pricing issue was in regards to various makers' own Web sites, not to this forum. :-)

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
