My Personal Sheaffer Snorkel/pfm Collection

Hi all,

Attached some pictures of my snorkel /PFM collection.

As far as I know, only missing the solid gold snorkel, please correct me if I'm wrong !

Note the brown snorkel, a "Frankenpen" I've made using a snorkel desk pen I've altered ( left lower corner)

If we're talking about colors, but also not limiting it to white dots, I don't see a vermillion. Since you mention Masterpiece versions, are you counting Autograph and Signature? And they say there are two kinds of Burgundy red.

 

I can't remember everything about PFMs, but there are demonstrators, so it depends on whether you're counting that one as well.

You are right on the Periwinkle white dot. It was missing and I've made a replacement which has a too large colaarn will correct this !

I've only shown part of my collection, but I also have boxed mint Autograph and Signature sets.

I don't have a vermillion , but as I understand these were not made with a white dot.

Never heard ther were 2 kinds burgundy snorkle though ?

Still looking for a PFM demonstrator,at least when the price is reasonable !

Hi Francis,

While far from a snork "expert" there are indeed two burgundy's, the early one with a black section and a later with a coloured section. My understanding from Roger W. and Dr.I. is that vermillion was, as you say, a non white dot colour. A lovely collection !!

As mentioned by Roger, Snorkel has 2 versions of Burgundy (see picture below). Don’t know why, there is no price different between these versions. Normally, a picture with only one burgundy is difficult to tell whether it is darker, you must have these pens sitting together for comparison.

 

 

This situation is also applied to Fiesta Red/Vermilion…

 

 

Including these 2 burgundies, the brown desk pen and transparent demonstrator, there are altogether 15 colors (see below : 1st picture was taken before I got the Periwinkle while the 2nd picture forgot to put the deskpen)

 

 

 

Snorkel has 14 models (I treat 9K, 14K and 18K Masterpiece as one model) including deskpen and Special (PdAg conventional open nib). Below picture shows from the most expensive 14K Masterpiece on the right to the cheapest Special on the left together with the deskpen.

I only have a Snorkel Crest, but with a stub nib.

Been looking for a PFM V w stub nib but is like a proverbial unicorn....

I can't help in identifying what may be missing, don't know enough about them.

The Snorkel is one pen/ filling system I've not yet so much as tried, I've never even held one.

One of these days I do plan on getting at least one beater to overhaul, breathe some life back into, if only to teach myself how they work.

It amazes me how many fountain pens there are, even in one filler-type category, so many I've never even seen before.

It's in seeing pictures like these that makes me realize just how vast the fountain pen world once was, and still is thanks to collectors.

It's a clear sign that at one time we didn't live is such a disposable world as we do now, that I also have a lot more to learn than I already have.

This is my first time knowing a chrome trim snorkel. I notice the white dot on the cap, is this reserve trim snorkel a variation of the Valiant or Statesmen or any other model ? Can you tell me more about this chrome trim snorkel such as production period? Thanks.

 

I saw a 18K snorkel Masterpiece from my friend’s collection, I am still looking for this 18K Masterpiece as well as the replacement to my not good condition 9K Masterpiece. Looks like I also need to add this chrome trim snorkel in my wish list.

Thanks all for sharing the pictures. The PFM is really growing on me - I have a later Sheaffer with the similar inlaid nib, but nothing like the same size. Some great colours in the collections pictured!

The second green is Fern Green. It is the rarest of the colors as Fiesta Red can be easier had in the Sentinel model though Fiesta Red in a matched cap Statesmen/Valiant is almost impossible.
